The University Wellness Center (UWC) at The University of the South is dedicated to promoting and enhancing the health and well-being of Sewanee students, within an integrative healthcare model, by providing comprehensive and excellent medical services, behavioral health and counseling services, and wellness promotion to the student body. TheUWCis comprised of a team of mental health professionals in Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), medical professionals in Health Service, and wellness professionals in Wellness Promotion. TheUWC/CAPSis seeking a Staff Clinician who will play an integral role in our multidisciplinary team, be responsible for providing direct clinical services within a culturally competent framework, and participate in outreach initiatives and activities. The successful candidate will have experience working with developmental and identity concerns, as well as experience working with substance abuse issues, eating disorders, and trauma.

  • Provide clinical services, including individual assessment to determine treatment recommendations, short-term individual and group therapy, and referral services

  • Provide crisis management that includes occasional evening and weekend response

  • Participate in outreach services to meet the mental health needs of the University community, including educational workshops, personal skill development groups, consultation and training programs for faculty, staff, and student leaders and to support mental health of vulnerable student populations


Education:

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or Marriage and Family Therapy

  • Must be licensed or license-eligible as a mental health professional in the State of Tennessee


Experience:

  • 1-2 years of relevant professional experience

  • Must be licensed or license-eligible as a mental health professional in the State of Tennessee


Job Related Skills:

  • Knowledge and experience with multicultural theory and research, and the application of such research to college counseling center work

  • Experience providing short-term, solution-focused treatment

  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams

  • Experience facilitating a variety of psychotherapy and/or wellness-oriented groups, ranging from psychoeducational and skills-based groups to interpersonal process groups.

  • Well-developed public speaking skills; interest and comfort in providing outreach and consultation to groups

  • Knowledge of and commitment to the application of the highest standards of legal and ethical principles

  • Knowledge of college student development and associated mental health challenges

  • Experience providing crisis services and making appropriate referrals to facilitate hospitalizations

  • Experience working in intensive treatment settings and with complex and severe mental health diagnoses

  • Commitment and expertise in working with diverse populations and/or underrepresented college student populations

  • Experience in directing, organizing, and prioritizing workload to meet required deadlines and department objectives

  • Skill in preparing comprehensive and in-depth analysis of complex, sensitive, and multifaceted issues, particularly under tight time constraints

  • Experience in written and electronic forms of data collection and management
