JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


Penn State Harrisburg, a comprehensive College of The Pennsylvania State University, is excited to welcome applications and nominations for the 12-month position of Staff Counselor with BIPOC Student Focus at Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). We are seeking a mental health provider who has training and expertise in the needs of students who identify as Black/African American, Indigenous, and Persons of Color (BIPOC).


Job Responsibilities:




  • Provide brief individual, couples, and group counseling, assessment, crisis intervention, and case management services for undergraduate and graduate students seeking help for emotional and behavioral concerns.



  • Assist with individual and group mental health counseling services for BIPOC, AAPI, Latinx, and/or LGBTQIA+ student populations.



  • Develop and lead mental health outreach programming with a focus on BIPOC student groups.



  • Partner with supervisor and other campus staff to coordinate urgent mental health crisis services.



  • Consult with the campus community on issues of care and concern.



  • Participate in CAPS graduate training program activities such as providing trainee seminars and contributing during the trainee selection process.



  • Assist in peer educator programs and activities (Mental Health/Wellness Ambassadors).



  • Actively participate in professional associations and training sessions.



  • Maintain current, accurate, and timely clinical documentation in accordance with state and federal law, professional ethics, as well as CAPS policies.



  • Participate in CAPS and university committees as assigned.



  • Participate in clinical supervision and weekly clinical case consultation at CAPS.



  • Have high cultural competency in clinical, outreach, and training experience serving diverse populations, with a professional focus on the needs of BIPOC students.



  • Provide psychological programs and mental health services to Penn State Harrisburg students.



  • Participate in supervising graduate-level trainees and training student peer educators and supervising counselors seeking licensure (if independently licensed).




Typical Education & Experience:


Level 3




  • 0+ years of related experience



  • Master's Degree or higher in Social Work or related discipline



  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience




Level 4




  • 3+ years of related experience



  • Master's Degree or higher in Social Work or related discipline



  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience




Overall Experience:




  • Licensed or license eligible in Pennsylvania as a Social Worker or equivalent in Psychology or Counseling.



  • Minimum of six months of specialized focus and commitment to providing mental health services to BIPOC communities in a clinical setting (may include practicum/internship experience).



  • Knowledge of relevant cultural factors and the specific developmental, mental health, and academic concerns of BIPOC students.



  • Evidence of commitment to racial trauma-informed clinical practice and multicultural identity modeling within a social justice framework.



  • Evidence of cultural competency, advocacy, and commitment to authentic relationship building serving diverse populations.



  • The ability to work independently in the United States is required for employment.




Candidates must provide successful Child Abuse Reporting clearances, FBI Fingerprinting, and state criminal background checks prior to hiring.


Preferred Qualifications:




  • Bilingual or multilingual clinical skills are preferred.



  • Understanding of applied socio-cultural clinical implications.



  • Direct clinical experience serving BIPOC student populations is highly preferred.



  • Some experience working in a university/college counseling center.



  • Experience working in brief individual and group psychotherapy within a high-volume clinical setting with clients presenting in acute distress.



  • Experience leading community-based outreach initiatives.
