Station Manager, WUTC 88.1 FM–Requisition # 18000000EK
WUTC 88.1 FM is seeking a creative and dynamic new leader to direct all activities of UTC's WUTC-FM NPR station, while also serving as the oversight manager for fiscal responsibility and personnel management of the station. The position reports to UTC's Vice Chancellor for Communications and Marketing, and the person fulfilling the position is a member of University Relations. Responsibilities include:
  • Overall operation of WUTC-FM, including staffing, programming, budgeting and fundraising; for reviewing and holding authority to commit funds in concert with Vice Chancellor for Communications and Marketing; and for overseeing contracts, advertising, licensees reporting, engineering concerns, and equipment purchases. Serve as the membership sales person. Also, the hiring, disciplining, supervising of staff and granting of licenses.
  • Oversight of programming, news content and on-air assignments and schedules.
  • Oversight for an effort to convert weekends to all digital broadcasts; direct/assist the work of the station's Underwriting Manager; approve all paperwork including NPR-required reviews, documents and compliance.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree required in journalism, broadcasting, communications, business or accounting, or other related field is required; Master's degree preferred. A minimum of ten years working in electronic media, preferably in management but also preferred experience in on-air broadcasting, sales of underwriting and membership sales. A minimum of five years' experience directing a staff of sales and office personnel, preferably one in electronic media. Supervisory skills in electronic media, clear leadership, experience, and strong sales and fiscal management experience is preferred. Candidate must understand the requirements of working as an affiliate station of National Public Radio. Familiarity with the writing of news, underwriting spots for on-air. Candidates who have previously managed an NPR affiliate radio station is preferred. A knowledge of the Chattanooga media market is preferred. Occasional evenings, weekends, and overnight travel is required. Valid driver's license is required.
