Description



Responsibilities and Duties


  1. Provide information and support services to students in various District programs and services including, but not limited to, the Career/Transfer Center, the Assessment Center, Counseling and Special Services, EOPS,CARE, and various categorically funded programs.
  2. Implement program activities that support student success as defined in the Student Success and Support Program (SSSP) for new, at risk, and continuing students.
  3. Respond to requests and inquiries from students, faculty, staff and the public; provide information on admissions, financial aid and registration policies and procedures; assist students to complete various forms and applications; refer students to other college services as appropriate.
  4. Design and develop promotional literature, pamphlets, forms, and displays of the various services offered by the District; update web pages and social media.
  5. Research, develop, and deliver presentations and workshops.
  6. Organize and market events and workshops; contact and make arrangements for speakers; coordinate facilities and resources.
  7. Provide assistance and support to faculty and administration, as requested.
  8. Perform data entry functions; enter, store, modify, retrieve and print student information.
  9. Perform a variety of routine clerical functions; schedule orientation and assessment appointments; maintain and order informational handouts and brochures.
  10. May process financial transactions or contracts; initiate requisitions and purchase orders, as required.
  11. May train and oversee the work of student employees; serve as a resource and technical lead for other staff.
  12. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.


Qualifications

Knowledge of:
  • Principles and procedures of student interviewing and assessment.
  • Program goals, guidelines, policies, procedures and eligibility requirements of assigned program or service.
  • Current issues and trends relative to assigned area of responsibility.
  • Principles and techniques of job search including resume writing, interviewing and follow-up.
  • Principles and procedures of record keeping.
  • Standard office procedures, methods and equipment including computers, internet research, database and MS Office software applications.
  • Basic webpage and social media operations.
  • Pertinent Federal, State and local codes, laws and regulations and the California Education Code.
Ability to:
  • Provide assistance and information to students with educational or vocational barriers.
  • Provide information to students and the public regarding availability of District programs and services.
  • Determine eligibility and matriculation requirements for new and transfer students.
  • Recognize and understand student needs and make appropriate referrals.
  • Provide testing services to individual students and in support of various campus programs.
  • Respond to a wide variety of requests and inquiries from students, faculty, staff and the public.
  • Effectively present information to small and large groups.
  • Work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Prioritize assignments; organize and work on several projects simultaneously.
  • Work in a dynamic, fast paced, and high demand environment.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, ethnic backgrounds and disabilities of community college students and staff.
  • Sit for prolonged periods of time; extensive use of a computer keyboard; lift 30 lbs.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business administration, education or a related field and two years of increasingly responsible experience providing information and career assessment services or a related field to students.
OR
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business administration, education or a related field and four years of increasingly responsible experience providing information and career assessment services or a related field to students.
