ABOUT THE POSITION:

This professional position is primarily responsible for the development and coordination of tutoring and testing services, tutoring curriculum/programs, and tutor training for the JD Alexander Center. In addition, the Tutoring Services Specialist serves as a liaison between the Center and faculty and participate in the assessment of programs and services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:
  • Assist in the development and coordination of tutoring curriculum and program planning.
  • Coordinate and conduct tutor training events and oversee tutor certification when applicable.
  • Serve as a liaison between the College Center and faculty.
  • Provide tutoring services in area of specialty(s).
  • Record and track statistics and assessment of programs and services.
  • Evaluate tutoring services and resources.
  • Schedule and assign tutor introductions, orientations and presentations.
  • Assist students, faculty and staff in the use of computer hardware and software.
  • Assist disabled students with special needs software and equipment.
  • Administer and monitor testing for PSC courses, standardized tests, special needs, college placement and all distance learning as needed.
  • Perform troubleshooting on computer equipment, submit request for computer maintenance and collaborate with college technical support for major repairs.
  • Assemble and distribute beginning of the term tutor and testing information to faculty.
  • Review timesheets for tutoring staff.


This position is a level P12. To determine starting salary, Polk State College takes into consideration the pay level minimum, the candidate's qualifications and internal equity factors.


Required Skills:
  • The ability to establish an effective rapport with faculty students and administration.
  • Ability to develop and execute curriculum and instruction in tutoring center environment.
  • Good organizational skills, with special attention to details.
  • Good oral and written communications skills.
  • Experience with computer, word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.


Required Education:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree is required.

Working Conditions:
  1. A. Must be available to work evening hours or weekend hours as needed.
  2. B. Must have the ability to work proficiently in busy, multi-office work area.
  3. C. Must be flexible and able to adapt well to changes.


Required Experience:
Two years of related work experience in an educational setting, preferably in higher education.
