The Transitions Director is a full-time appointment that reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor, Office of Undergraduate Education. The Director is responsible for creating a research-based strategy for the academic transition experiences of first-year and transfer students to UCSB. This will involve collaborating with academic deans and departments, as well as acting as a liaison to Student Affairs units who sponsor transition experiences. The Transitions Director will then create digital and in-person messages, workshops, courses, and other activities that enable students to learn about a liberal arts education and the potential of the research university; learn to navigate within the university in ways that will enable connections between students' interests and identities and UCSB's academic contexts and opportunities; and coordinate existing programs that already address transition experiences.

The primary Director areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

Project coordination -
Under general supervision from the Office of Undergraduate Education, the Transitions Director is responsible for creating an overall transitions strategy for UCSB that will guide messages and activities within Undergraduate Education. The Director will create this strategy in collaboration with academic deans and Student Affairs professionals who also work on transitions-related issues. The Director will collaborate with other units in the university, especially orientation and other Student Affairs units, to create research-based principles that are reflected in transition experiences for UCSB's diverse student populations. The Director will act as a liaison with Letters and Science, Engineering, and CCS academic deans as departments within each division create transition experiences. They will collaborate with existing initiatives housed within the Office of Undergraduate Education such as online and face-to-face courses focused on academic introductions to the research university, academic advising offered during orientation, and transition experiences included in the ONDAS and Transfer Student Centers. In collaboration with IR and OUE staff, creates and implements assessments to assess each transitions initiative activity, and uses assessment results in the creation of new programs.

Campus and public relations-
The Director is responsible for the development and maintenance of strong working relationships with, among other units, office of undergraduate education, departmental undergraduate advisors, honors programs, undergraduate research programs, student affairs, institutional research and planning, instructional development, as well as other academic preparation and outreach programs. The Director coordinates with units across campus to create digital and in-person strategies to facilitate students' transitions to UCSB.

Program evaluation and student assessment-
The Director oversees assessment of transitions-related programs, drawing on quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate the effectiveness of transition efforts.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in Education or a discipline relevant to the Transitions Director position. Note that applicants should explain the relevance of their degree(s) to the Director position.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in program development, project management and employee supervision.
Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate effective programs and practices related to undergraduate student success.
Ability to facilitate collaborative work across departments and manage team members;.
Ability to interact effectively with diverse populations, including senior administrators, faculty, staff, students and the public.
Strong written and oral communication skills, including excellent interpersonal communication, written reports and correspondence, and presentations for large and small audiences.
Experience working with underrepresented minority and/or under-served populations.
Ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects at different levels.
Broad knowledge of university divisions, offices, and departments, and university personnel and procedures appropriate to a varied range of activities and coordination.
