Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM; occasional early morning, evening and weekend hours; this is a temporary position to end on or before June 30, 2019.

Job Summary:

California State University, Fullerton is searching for an Undergraduate Advisor (Student Services Professional I) with a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Dean, Academic Services, the Undergraduate Advisor provides academic advisement and support to undergraduate students in the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics. Advises prospective, newly admitted and continuing undergraduate students on their major degree requirements, course selection, evaluation of transcripts and general university policies and procedures. Advises students on academic probation. Assists in the development of Mihaylo College retention programs. Assists with graduation checks. Provides advisement to students with special needs and in programs including Business Honors, Finish in Four and Freshmen Programs. Coordinates and participates in outreach activities as assigned. Manages assigned population of students and coordinates activities and intervention strategies based on their needs. Works with existing programs to encourage cross campus collaboration of resources, as well as finding innovative means to facilitate retention and graduation. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field (specialized and relevant experience may substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis) AND one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level (Equivalent amounts of graduate level; job-related education may be substituted for the required experience).

Working knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management; working knowledge of research and interviewing techniques; working knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior; working knowledge of the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge of the organization, procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned; and working knowledge of the basic principles, practices and major trends in the Student Services field to which assigned. Ability to rapidly acquire a working knowledge of the specific objectives of the campus Student Services program and its relationship to the total campus operation; ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; ability to gather and analyze data; ability to reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; ability to present clear and concise information orally and in written reports; ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations and other private and public agencies.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
