Position Status:

Basic Function:
The Academy is seeking a qualified STEM engineering teacher or individual looking for a career change into the field of high school teaching.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • The candidate will participate in the STEM I research course as a project advisor, be a co-teacher for the STEM II Assistive Technology course, and teach/advise one or two elective/extracurricular activities per term. A major focus will be teaching CAD (Solidworks) and running and maintaining our Makerspace/3-D print lab which supports many research projects. Duties associated with Academy programs include working with our FIRST robotics team, advising student activities like the traveling science show and assisting in the coordination of our science fair. Hours are non-traditional (first semester will run 1-5 PM plus additional preparation and outreach hours). Some flexible hours for second semester will include science fairs or robotics tournaments on weekends. Other duties will include representing the Academy on state and regional boards of WRSEF, MSSEF, AAAS, attending outreach events such as STEM Summit, MAST and other Professional Development and outreach activities, and to develop programs like summer Maker camps for middle and high school students.

    Position Requirements

  • Work and/or teaching experience in physics, mathematics, engineering, robotics and/or other related fields is preferred. Masters degree preferred. Experience working with high school students and a genuine desire to meet the licensure requirements of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts/DESE expected. Detailed knowledge of 3D printing technology and CAD is required.
