The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the Metropolitan State University of Denver is seeking a full-time lecturer for a one-year (non-renewable) appointment for academic year 24-25. The Lecturer will teach introductory courses in Global Climate Change, Global Water Concerns, Introduction to Physical Geography, and/or other introductory classes in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences.

The Global Climate Change course explores the science of the causes of global climate change, observed and projected climate change impacts, as well as solutions. The course is populated by students seeking General Education credit in the Natural and Physical Sciences as well as Global Diversity. The Global Water Concerns course examines water as a natural and societal resource and is populated by students seeking General Education credit in the Natural and Physical Sciences as well as Global Diversity. Introduction to Physical Geography emphasizes the atmosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere and is populated by students seeking General Education credit in the Natural and Physical Sciences, as well as geography majors.

Duties/Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach five sections (15 credits) each semester, primarily face to face, but with the possibility of asynchronous online sections as needed. Each face-to-face section will have approximately 32 students enrolled.

Existing faculty will share course materials with the successful candidate as they develop their courses. The successful candidate will have at least a Master's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, Geography, or a closely allied discipline, along with previous teaching experience. Experience working with learning management systems, especially Canvas, is desirable.

Salary for Announcement

The salary range for this position is $53,000 - $59,000 at Lecturer level. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, specialty and training.
