Position Description
This unique role is dedicated to developing and implementing (primarily but not limited to) retreat programs that harness the core of Seattle University's Jesuit Catholic spiritual worldview. These programs are designed to foster connection and community through both contemplative and active belonging. By nurturing an interior sense of belonging in students, we aim to help them develop similar connections with the natural world, their peers, and their greater community. This position is keenly aware of young people's ever-evolving spiritual landscape and integrates current and innovative ministerial practices to create spiritual spaces that prioritize inclusion and belonging.
Seattle University Campus Ministry prepares and forms students to embody faith and justice through their lives by providing opportunities for spiritual growth, discernment, prayer, and community engagement.
As a key member of the Campus Ministry team, reporting to the Director, you will be at the forefront of students' pastoral and ministerial programming. Your focus will be on building spiritual practices that lead toward a vibrant, engaging, and discerning community. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the spiritual landscape of our campus and make a lasting impact on our students.
Essential Functions
Retreat Planning, Implementation and Logistic Planning (30%)
- Program lead on Early Bird Immersion Retreat, New Student Retreat, Search Retreat, and Ecological Spirituality Retreat
Logistical programing related to accommodating risk assessment and mitigation, location scouting and transportation, and meals. - Promotion, implementation, and evaluation of retreat programs.
- Sustained and developed follow-up events and enrichment activities that provide points of interaction for greater engagement, support and growth.
Student Leader Formation (30%)
- Provide leadership formation of undergrad and graduate students with a focus on Ignatian Spirituality and leadership.
- Embody pastoral care and strive toward cultivating student leaders who learn about and are committed to engaging inspiritual communities.
- Collaborating with relevant Student and Campus Life and Academic Student Facing Spaces to promote retreats and recruit leaders.
Collaboration and Retreat Consultation (20%)
- Provide team consultation around Ignatian Silent Retreat, Student Campus Minister Formation Retreat, Liturgical Retreats, ROOTED, Embodying the Sacred and Catholic Retreat.
- Provide collaboration and pastoral accompaniment to Seattle University Retreat Program Partners (UREC, MOSAIC, Alumni, CJE, etc.)
- Provide consultation, education and training to faculty, staff, and alum around the praxis of retreats and building belonging with young people in our current context.
Administration (10%)
- Budget and logistic record keeping for retreats.
- Data Management of sensitive student records and data
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required, Master of Divinity or other post-graduate theological degree preferred.
- Experience in coordinating multiple programs simultaneously.
- Experience and desire to be work with a diverse and vibrant community.
- Interest in understanding the complexity and nuance of contemporary college students and their spiritual lives.
- Experience in leading retreats with a spiritual focus.
- Interest in and experience of leadership training, especially of young adults.
- Understanding of and ability to provide formation in Ignatian Spirituality.
- Competence in PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft Word, and Outlook, comfortable navigating social media, web pages and other marketing tools, ability to learn other programs as needed.
- Ability to navigate budget material and manage programmatic assessment, including timely reporting and updates to Senior Administrative Assistant.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Openness to the Jesuit, Catholic mission of the department and the university, and ability to communicate that mission.
- Ability to work under supervision and take initiative where appropriate.
- Ability to navigate collaboration with other university departments.
- Some evening and weekend availability for meetings and retreats.

Compensation at a Glance
Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000
Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.
Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck. Seattle University provides generous leave, health plans, and retirement contributions that add to your total compensation package.
