Job Description

The lab of Albert Gonzales, PhD, is seeking its next postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Physiology & Cell Biology.

The postdoctoral scholar will lead research focused on the role of capillary physiology in both health and disease. Ongoing funded projects examine how capillary endothelial cells and pericytes contribute to the pathophysiology of various disorders, including myopia, age-related macular degeneration, Alzheimer's disease, and cancer. The postdoc will be responsible for designing and performing experiments using a range of advanced physiological and biophysical techniques. These include ex vivo pressurized tissue preparations, high-speed, high-resolution light microscopy, in vivo multiphoton imaging, patch-clamp electrophysiology, lipid bilayer electrophysiology, Using chamber recordings, and pressure myography. Beyond experimental execution, the postdoc will be involved in all aspects of the research process: formulating hypotheses, developing and refining protocols, conducting rigorous data collection and analysis, interpreting findings within the broader scientific context, and preparing manuscripts for publication.

The postdoc will also be encouraged to develop independent research directions aligned with the lab's core interests, apply for extramural funding, contribute to grant proposals, and participate in collaborative projects within and outside the lab, while also mentoring and training graduate and undergraduate students in a supportive and collaborative research environment.

Required Qualifications
  • The candidate must hold a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD degree in Physiology or a related field acquired within five years from start date
  • The ideal candidate will possess experience in patch-clamp electrophysiology and vascular physiology

Pay will be commensurate or above NIH stipend.
