This posting will search for a candidate to teach Philosophy 2441: Logic, Language, and Scientific Reasoning for the Fall 2025 semester for the Department of Philosophy in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado Denver. By submitting your application, you will be considered for this lecturer position. The candidate hired from this application will fill a temporary, non-tenure track position. The appointments will be part-time (less than 50%) and will be subject to a semester-by-semester decision, depending on the needs of the department and subject to budgetary approval.
Lecturer
What you will do:
- Teach an undergraduate course in logic and critical reasoning, with a focus on the development of students' analytical, argumentative, and scientific reasoning skills.
- Deliver high-quality, inclusive instruction aligned with department standards and course objectives.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to support their intellectual growth and academic success.
- Contribute to student success by maintaining availability for consultation and mentoring during office hours.
- Participate in departmental assessment and curriculum development activities as requested.
Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- Masters Degree in Philosophy, Ethics, or a related field from an accredited university.
Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)
- Previous teaching experience.
- PhD in Philosophy, Ethics, or a related field from an accredited university.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Deep understanding of formal and informal logic, critical thinking, and the philosophy of science.
- Familiarity with current debates and pedagogical approaches in logic, language, and reasoning.
- Knowledge of standardized test content (e.g., LSAT, MCAT) where logical reasoning is assessed.
- Demonstrated ability to clearly explain complex logical concepts and problem-solving strategies to diverse undergraduate audiences.
- Skilled in facilitating classroom discussions that encourage critical thinking and inclusive dialogue.
- Proficiency with educational technologies (e.g., learning management systems, digital logic tools).
- Ability to design and deliver engaging and rigorous undergraduate logic courses.
- Ability to assess student learning effectively and fairly across different modalities.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to the collaborative goals of the department.
- A passion for teaching and a commitment to fostering students' intellectual curiosity and development.
- Reflective and adaptive thinker who continually improves teaching practices based on feedback and self-assessment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills that support building positive relationships with students and colleagues.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary for this position has been established at $5,000.
The above salary represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
