Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno is seeking a Maintenance Repair Specialist 1 to support the Clark County Extension in Las Vegas, NV. This position is responsible for performing skilled maintenance and repair work across plumbing, carpentry, painting, HVAC, and electrical systems within assigned UNR properties. Duties include installing fixtures such as faucets, performing irrigation repairs, assembling furniture, adjusting HVAC settings, replacing light bulbs, and troubleshooting issues for supervisor review. The role also conducts routine preventative maintenance and property inspections to ensure operational continuity and the safety of all internal and external customers. Additional responsibilities include reporting required supplies, parts, and equipment to the supervisor, coordinating vendor services for routine or emergency repairs, and supporting the regular maintenance of horse property operations, including barns, arenas, stalls, storage areas, corral fencing, and related equipment. This position will assist with care of animals on property.
Required Qualifications
- This position requires four (4) years of progressively responsible experience under the supervision of journey level trades persons in two (2) or more of the major building or mechanical trades which included responsibility for performing a variety of repair and maintenance activities, laying out jobs and ordering materials; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Schedule
The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.
This position is designated as Essential Personnel. In the event of an emergency, special event, closure or to maintain safety or building operations, this position may be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours.
Compensation Grade
Grade 30
In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
