Job Description:
The Direct Marketing Production Specialist assumes a leadership role in executing marketing efforts, plays a key role in decision-making for the marketing calendar, and provides strategic recommendations to ensure successful outcomes. Responsible for spearheading the implementation of direct response marketing plans developed by channel leads within the Advancement Marketing team, the Production Specialist oversees the coordination of direct mail, email, social media, and other communications aimed at engaging, soliciting, and stewarding members of the Brown community. Emphasizing adherence to established marketing protocols and best practices, this role ensures that projects are completed on time and uphold the highest quality standards. Collaborating closely with team members, the Production Specialist strategically contributes to developing marketing tactics that raise approximately $8M annually for the Brown Annual Fund and supports marketing efforts for other key partners across the Advancement Division.
Additionally, the Specialist assists in maintaining a comprehensive marketing calendar, optimizing processes to improve efficiency, and implementing improvements in collaboration with team members and key stakeholders. Engaging in rigorous review and proofing, the Specialist works with the Assistant Director of Quality Assurance and Project Operations to ensure accuracy and adherence to quality control standards, fostering a culture of excellence within the Advancement Marketing team.
The Direct Marketing Production Specialist is a key liaison with stakeholders from across the division, including members of The Brown Annual Fund, Advancement Communications, and Donor Relations/Stewardship teams, as well as campus partners. In this capacity, the Production Specialist will lead project kick-off meetings, determine appropriate timelines, establish goals, and develop compelling content for marketing appeals. Moreover, the Production Specialist will also work with outside vendors, such as direct mail houses, as part of the direct marketing process. As a project manager, the Specialist will be an essential conduit among multiple stakeholders, including campus partners and vendors, and will provide ongoing updates throughout the project lifecycle.
The Specialist will assist with budget tracking and decision-making processes, working with the Director of Direct Marketing and the Advancement Marketing team.
Job Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a related field such as communications, general marketing, operations, client-facing, or a similar role.
Job Competencies
- Knowledge of tools and marketing practices for measuring the success of engagement efforts. Strong skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and database software. The ability to adapt to changing technologies is essential.
- Exemplary interpersonal skills with a track record of working with multiple stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and proofreading skills.
- Creativity, motivation, and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to multitask and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to deal with confidential information with complete discretion.
- Strong knowledge of the Windows & Google environments and the ability to adapt to new technologies and platforms.
- Must have a proven record of being a detail-oriented self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and priorities to meet aggressive timelines and challenging deadlines, while always keeping an eye toward the larger goals of all programs and services, along with a demonstrated commitment to maintaining the highest standards.
- Web-savvy; familiarity with current and emerging social media platforms, both paid and organic. The ability to adapt to changing technologies is essential.
- Knowledge of and working experience with HTML/CSS is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with marketing software and/or platforms for print, email, social media, text, and phone engagement is essential; experience with InDesign, Photoshop, Canva, Hustle, Campaign Monitor, HubSpot, Gravyty, GiveCampus, etc.
- Experience with nonprofit CRM solutions, such as Blackbaud CRM or Raiser's Edge, is helpful.
