After five and a half years and eleven national Esports championships, Madison College is seeking a new Head Intercollegiate Esports Coach / XR Coordinator to play a key role in not only coaching and recruiting for a successful Esports team but also providing direction and engagement in Extended Reality at Madison College. This position builds on the great work of coaching the Esports team and ensuring compliance with departmental, college, and governing body regulations. Additionally, the role involves coordinating and operating the XR Center tools, equipment, and technology.
The Head Intercollegiate Esports Coach / XR Coordinator provides leadership for the intercollegiate Esports program, assists with operations and maintenance of Extended Reality (XR) tools, and supports the XR Center. Success in this role involves recruiting, coaching, and mentoring Esports student-athletes, assisting with the setup of XR equipment and software, and supporting classroom and Esports technology. This position contributes to institutional objectives by enhancing student engagement, ensuring the successful operations of XR technology, and fostering a positive, inclusive environment for employees and student-athletes alike.

This is a full-time, year-round (52 weeks) position. Hours vary based on the athletic schedule.

Accountabilities:
Intercollegiate Esports Coaching
- Plan, organize, and conduct all intercollegiate Esports practices and contests in compliance with college and NJCAAE rules. Organize camps, tournaments, and Esports fundraising.
- Successfully recruit high-caliber Esports student-athletes and document all recruiting activity. Represent the college at conference, state, regional, and national Esports coaches' meetings and events.
- Supervise all team personnel, including student-athletes, assistant coaches, managers, and Esports lab workers. Hire and evaluate coaching staff.
- Coordinate with IT to ensure hardware and software are maintained regularly, including security patches, upgrades, game updates, and streaming components. Purchase necessary supplies, manage and maintain inventory, and collaborate with departmental staff to plan large equipment procurement.
- Create documentation for team procedures and policies, submitting all required student-athlete documents for NJCAAE and college eligibility.
XR Coordination
- Assists with the setup, operation, and maintenance of XR equipment and software, ensuring all systems are functional and up to date. Provides direct support to students, faculty, and staff in the XR Center, including XR tool orientation, simulation assistance, and troubleshooting hardware/software issues.
- Cultivates an engaged XR learning community by coordinating student outreach initiatives, facilitating events and workshops, and developing partnerships that increase awareness, participation, and equitable access to XR Center resources.
- Coordinates purchasing, manages vendor contracts, and assists with managing capital requests for the XR Center and related units
- Provides basic support for classroom technology, including setup and troubleshooting of audiovisual equipment, interactive displays, and related instructional tools. Collaborates with the XR Center team to explore and test new XR applications, contributing to innovation and continuous improvement.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of popular Esports gaming titles, technology, methodology, and the ability to teach the most current skills, techniques, and strategies in those games. Regularly review league-specific rule sets, game day procedures, and communication in effect for the NJCAAE and other collegiate leagues.
- Ability to organize, manage, and communicate effectively to plan and execute practices, games, and tournaments.
- Ability to successfully recruit, mentor, and grow quality prospective student-athletes, assistant coaches, and related team staff, including managing team budgets for staff/equipment and scholarship allocations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a dynamic team and across departments.
The ideal candidate will possess proficiency in PC and console gaming hardware, popular gaming platforms (Steam, Epic Games, Battle.net, Riot Games), game strategies, networking, communication platforms (Discord), broadcasting (Twitch and YouTube), and IT support.
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor's degree or an associate's degree and equivalent additional relevant work experience.
Experience:
2-4 years of relevant, progressive, professional work experience
