Pay Rate/Range: The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $80,000 to $100,000/year. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full salary range for this position is $79,200 to $143,400/year.

Department Marketing Statement:

Instructional Development, part of Academic Affairs Information Technology (AAIT), supports the university's academic and instructional mission by delivering reliable and integrated technology services that enhance teaching, learning, and academic administration. As a service organization, AAIT provides technology services for General Assignment classrooms, departmental classrooms, and computer labs, along with campus-wide instructional technologies and audio-visual and video production services. AAIT also supports the technology needs of senior campus leadership, Academic Affairs offices, the Academic Senate, and core academic administrative systems. Working in collaboration with campus IT partners and units, AAIT ensures that faculty, staff, and students have access to dependable technologies and services that support diverse disciplines, teaching approaches, and learning environments.

Brief Summary of Job Duties:

Under the direction of the Director of Instructional Support, manages the Academic Affairs IT Classroom A/V Services Office. Coordinates with faculty, staff and relevant stakeholders to provide support for instruction and instructional related activities. Oversees the coordination of real-time technical support for ~275 instructional spaces on campus. Hires, trains and manages career and student staff who advise faculty and staff on best practices for the effective use of audio/visual and computer resources for instruction. Advises and assists the Director of Instructional Support on best practices, staffing and general operations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related area or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4+ years experience in a related/equivalent area.
  • 4+ years experience of strong technical skills with experience in Mac and PC platforms, web development, online conferencing, multimedia, presentation tools, and emerging technologies.
  • 4+ years demonstrated experience using solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • 2+ years demonstrated experience in supervisory and leadership techniques, with a proven ability to train, schedule, and evaluate the performance of staff and students.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience using strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Proven advanced knowledge of technical requirements of events and the technical requirements to execute projects.
  • Experience in a higher education or equivalent setting.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

Managerial & Administrative (60%): Directs the technical support response for approximately 275 classrooms, including general assignment classrooms, departmentally managed classrooms and instructional computer labs. Directly supervises a specialized team of 5 career staff and indirectly supervises approximately 30 student assistants tasked with providing daily technical support to users across campus. Sets goals, and conducts performance evaluations for all direct reports. Recommends and implements best practices for instructional support across all instructional spaces. Advises on departmental best practices including hours of operation, staffing policies, and shipping & receiving. Assigns duties to career, casual, and student staff to ensure a smooth delivery of services to the campus community. Advises on operational procedures for hardware maintenance, software imaging in labs and proactive classroom checks. Consults with the Director of Instructional Support in regards to classroom technology replacement and Tier 2 support for all instructional spaces.

Fiscal Management & Strategic Planning (20%): Works with the Director of Instructional Support to develop and manage the Classroom A/V Services Budget. Directly contributes to the development, justification and submission of the annual budget request for the Classroom A/V Services Office. Reviews and approves purchases for submission to the Director of Instructional Support. Advises on annual staffing budget, plans staffing schedule to adhere to budget without leaving gaps in service. Supervises and analyses the collection of instructional technology usage data across instructional spaces. Leverages data to advise leadership on emerging trends in faculty demand.

Training and Consultation (20%): Coordinates onboarding and training of student staff. Supervises and trains staff who instruct faculty, staff and students on the effective use of equipment to improve instruction. Provides information to faculty, staff and students regarding instructional support resources. Develops user guides, instructional materials, procedure manuals and other documentation as required.
