Purpose:
The position entails teaching "Introduction to Engineering" (ENGR 1) and its associated lab (ENGR 1L), a required foundational course for all incoming engineering students at SCU.
Basic Qualifications.
- Ph.D. (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline or other closely related field.
- Proven excellence and enthusiasm for teaching, specifically in engaging first-year students through active learning and design-oriented experiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- An understanding of the Santa Clara teaching model and demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level.
- Doctoral study or research and publications in engineering education and/or engineering design
- Experience in course or program development especially curricula involving first-year students, design-oriented activities, and/or engineering fundamentals
Responsibilities
Teaching duties include but are not limited to:
- Lead both lectures and lab sections of ENGR 1, coordinating closely with other faculty and teaching assistants.
- Teach 7.5 to 9 course equivalents annually, adjusted based on expertise.
- Conduct regular class meetings, assess and grade assignments and exams. Assign and submit student grades to the Office of the Registrar by designated deadlines.
- Maintain weekly office hours and actively support student learning.
- Participate in departmental activities, including meetings, committee service, and university events such as Preview Day, Open House, and Senior Project Presentations.
