Job Description
The Assistant Director of Financial Aid and Operations manages all scholarship and federal financial assistance at the graduate level and supports the academic programs at BU CDS.

General Description:
  • Responsible for the planning, management, and communication of financial aid at the graduate level. This includes, but is not limited to, all federal financial assistance (FAFSA, Direct, and Graduate Plus Loan), CDS merit scholarships, external funding, and assistantship opportunities available to Master's and Ph.D. students
  • Responsible for the management of all admission decision and pre-matriculation communication (including decision letters) and processes (specifically financial aid for domestic students and I-20s for international students) for graduate programs at CDS
  • Manage a portfolio of fellowships, internships, and other scholarship opportunities for CDS undergraduate and graduate students, including but not limited to, the Avanade Scholars, Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program, Apple Scholars, Google Fellowship, Fulbright, NSF GRFP, NIH Institutional Training Grant in Bioinformatics and others. Communicate opportunities and assist students with the application process.
  • Serves on various university and college committees and builds effective partnerships with colleagues throughout CDS and the University


Reporting to the Director of Academic Programs, the Assistant Director works closely with all prospective and enrolled students, academic departments/divisions including Department Chairs and graduate program directors, and BU-wide offices and working groups. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, organizational skills, commitment to customer service, and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.


Required Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree with 8-10 years of related experience or Master's Degree with 5-8 years of related experience. Master's Degree preferred.
  • Experience working in financial aid is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to exercise discretion in working with confidential information and sensitive matters.
