Position Summary

The Lamont School of Music seeks applicants for the Director of the Lamont Summer Academy. This is a part-time, non-benefitted position on a 12 month duration. The Director of the Lamont Summer Academy oversees all aspects of the Summer Academy, a two-week program held annually at the end of June and the beginning of July. The individual reports to the Director of the Lamont School of Music and is the primary liaison with the School.

This is a non-benefited position not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.

Essential Functions

Personnel and Supervision
  • Direct hiring of Academy faculty, staff, and student employees
  • Assign and oversee all duties of the Academy Assistant to the Director
  • Work directly with the Lamont School of Music Director, Newman Center staff, and DU Event Services, including securing and scheduling facilities annually
  • Interface with all prospective and enrolled Academy students and their parents

Budget
  • Work with the Lamont School of Music Budget Manager regarding the Academy budget, financial matters, and staff hiring

Scheduling
  • Develop a timeline for all components of the Academy
  • Develop all forms and schedules for the Academy with the assistance of the Assistant to the LSA Director
  • Schedule and supervise student employees including signing timecards
  • Work with Lamont's Facilities staff, piano technician, and recording studio for all Academy events and activities

Recruitment, Marketing, and Admission
  • Develop marketing and recruiting materials (e.g., ads, postcards, video assets, social media assets, and any other materials that help promote the summer academy)
  • Recruit students, either directly or through relationships developed with area teachers
  • Review and process all Academy applications with input from faculty regarding scholarship awards and concerto/aria competition
  • Work directly with Lamont's Admissions office regarding recruitment and application forms

Curriculum
  • Review, assess, and update Academy curriculum annually with the Lamont School of Music Director and Academy faculty

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Advanced musical training
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of social media platforms
  • Leadership skills

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in music
  • Experience, either as a teacher or administrator, in a summer music program or festival
  • Knowledge and skill with spreadsheets and other standard office applications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in music
  • Experience directing a music program or festival for high school students
  • Marketing skills

Work Schedule
  • This is a 12-month, non-benefitted, part time position
  • Hours will fluctuate throughout the year, varying from stretches of inactivity to high activity

Salary Range

The salary range for this part-time, 12 month position is $25,000-$28,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
