Position Summary
Assumes responsibility for constructing new costumes as well as altering rented, borrowed, or stock costumes for The Hart School's Musical Theatre, Actor Training, BFA Dance, Hart Opera, and Community Division Dance productions. Performs all duties in full support of the University's mission, understanding that the positive and effective execution of these duties are instrumental to the education of the University's students.

$17.83 per hour
Key Responsibilities
- Sews and/or constructs, either by machine or by hand, costumes from prototype to final product based on the specifications of each pattern.
- Alters, repairs, and/or decorates existing and/or rented costumes based on designer specifications.
- Performs craft work, including, but not limited to, decorating hats and repairing shoes, slippers, jewelry, crowns, and other accessories as necessary and/or appropriate. Performs other associated craftwork as determined by production needs.
- Assists with organizing and moving wardrobe and other stock as necessary and appropriate.
- Prepares fabric prior to cutting including, but not limited to, washing, ironing, and rolling onto fabric tubes.
- If directed by the Costume Shop Manger or Cutter/Draper, runs the fittings for certain productions.
- Creates, updates, and oversees the formal records of all fittings to determine alteration and restoration requirements for stock, rental, and/or borrowed costumes.
- Assists in the organization and cleanliness of the Costume Shop, maintaining personal work area(s), including sewing and constructing equipment, to keep work moving effectively.
- Collaborates with Costume Shop staff to ensure an adequate inventory of supplies and materials is available.
- Provides basic instruction and training to student workers regarding sewing techniques to provide assistance with costume preparation.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
