Lab Technician
Job Summary
Perform laboratory tests, experiments, and analyses. Prepare and weigh samples for testing and analysis. Conduct tests, assays, and other protocols under the direction of a laboratory services manager, physician, nurse, or scientist. Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs). Ensure all laboratory equipment and work areas are clean, sterile, and in proper working order. May be responsible for calibration of instruments.

Responsibilities
- Performs lab research as directed by supervisors
- Keeps a detailed records in lab books
- Assists with stock keeping, media prep, and lab inventory
- Assists with laboratory maintenance and reagent production as needed
- Performs experiments in cell and molecular biology as directed by supervisor(s), including
techniques in nucleic acid and protein biochemistry, gene manipulation, cell culture, Drosophila
culture, DNA sequencing and DNA sequence data analysis, microscopy and image analysis.
- Analyzes data, presents data in lab meetings, prepares data for publication
- Attends weekly lab meetings, participates in discussion
Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:
Laboratory Technician, I: Requires little to no related experience.
Laboratory Technician, II: Requires at least 1 year of related experience.
Laboratory Technician, III: Requires 3+ years of related experience.
Laboratory Technician, IV: Requires 5+ years of related experience.
