Job Description

Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC), located in Reno, Nevada, is seeking applicants for a full-time, 12-month/year-round, tenure-track Reference and Instruction Librarian.

Under the direction of Associate Dean of Learning Commons, the reference librarian oversees the daily functions of the library and brings leadership and innovation to the Learning Commons. Through close collaboration with academic faculty, the reference librarian is responsible for identifying curriculum needs and opportunities and then developing, advertising, and executing targeted support to ensure student success. The reference librarian provides a full-range of reference, library instruction, collection, and subject-area development to student, faculty, and public users.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Master's in Library Science, Library and Information Science, or related field from an American Library Association accredited institution

2. One year public or academic library experience

3. Experience providing library instruction or teaching experience at the college level

4. Experience creating instructional material, including web-based guides, videos, and tutorials

5. Experience applying research methods to support reference services

6. Evidence of tailoring services and/or content to meet user needs

7. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

8. Occasional evening and/or weekend availability

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Knowledge of specialized collections, such as genealogical records

2. STEM and Allied Health field knowledge

3. Experience facilitating OER projects and/or engagement with OER community

4. Bilingual in English and Spanish

Responsibilities:
Working with other library staff, the Reference and Instruction Librarian will:
1. Provide traditional and online reference services to the TMCC community.
2. Conduct Information Literacy instruction sessions.
3. Collaborate in the scheduling and assessment of library instruction sessions.
4. Develop/modify instructional materials.
5. Create and update library materials across a variety of platforms.
6. Collaborate with instructors to create and update research assignments.
7. Promote library services to the campus community.
8. Manage the public catalog interface as needed.
9. Serve as a collection development liaison in assigned areas.
10. Serve on library and college committees and working groups.
11. Assist faculty in integrating information resources into curriculum.
12. Provide customized support for students and faculty.
13. Maintain sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff.
14. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Demonstrated experience in the provision of library instruction or teaching experience at the college level.
2. Ability to provide excellent reference and instruction services in all formats for students and faculty in an academic library.
3. Evidence of problem solving and analytical skills.
4. Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technologies quickly.
5. Experience creating web-based guides, instructional videos and tutorials.
6. Ability to work with teams of colleagues with whom there is no direct reporting relationship to bring projects to satisfactory and timely completion.
7. Experience using the following or similar products/technologies, such as Microsoft Office, LibApps/LibGuides, the Alma/Primo discovery system, Canvas, Camtasia, and Workday.
8. Skill in identifying knowledge gaps and gaps in assessment and instruction.
9. Ability to adapt to unforeseen changes, not sacrificing the quality-of-service students receive.
10. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.

Salary and Benefits Information:

Salary: Initial salary placement will be dependent on education level and years of experience

Master's: $72,760 - $87,313

Master's + 30: $76,133 - $91,359

Ph.D: $82,487 - $98,984
