BI Analyst III - Business Intelligence & Research Services Utah Valley University

The BI Analyst III within Business Intelligence & Research Services (BIRS) is a trusted, experienced analyst who transforms complex institutional data into meaningful insights that inform decisions across the university.

This role is ideal for a seasoned, mission-driven analyst who enjoys working across diverse data sources, building high-quality dashboards and reports, and collaborating with campus partners to answer important questions. The BI Analyst III contributes to both strategic and operational analytics, supporting internal decision-making.

Beyond analysis and reporting, this position offers the opportunity to mentor junior analysts, promote data quality and governance best practices, and continuously refine how data is used and understood at UVU. Summary of Responsibilities


  • Manages and maintains quality of institutional databases. Extracts and analyzes institutional data used both internally for operational and strategic decision making and externally for informational and official institutional reporting to state and federal agencies, accreditation, program review, and other programs such as IPEDS, Perkins, VSA, and Student-Right-to-Know.
  • Analysis: Coordinates with BIRS leadership in the collection, aggregation, and analysis of data from multiple internal and external sources to drive insights into institutional performance.
  • Produce actionable reports, dashboards, and visualizations that show key performance indicators KPIs, identify areas of improvement into current operations, and display root cause analysis of problems.
  • Reporting and tools: Provide reporting solutions and respond to ad-hoc report requests across multiple business areas. Participate in the design and development of business intelligence reporting tools used by Academic Affairs.
  • Train and mentor junior analysts on data analysis techniques, data visualization tools, and best practices for data management and governance. Stay up to date on emerging trends and best practices in data analysis, data management, data visualization, and storytelling with data.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree and one year of related experience or any combination of education and experience totaling five years. Related degrees might include Administration (Educational, Public, or Business), Behavioral Science, Research/Evaluation, Information Systems, etc.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of business intelligence tools and techniques, such as data modeling, data warehousing, and data visualization.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and data mining techniques.
  • Knowledge of database design, database management, and data governance best practices.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as SQL, R, Python, and other data analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of higher education institutions' structure, policies, and procedures.
Skills
