Position Announcement
As the Associate Director of Compliance Reporting and Analysis, you will play a critical leadership role at the intersection of data, strategy, and accountability. Reporting to the Director of Business Intelligence & Research Services, this position leads the university's compliance reporting and analytical efforts that support federal, state, grant, and stakeholder requirements while advancing institutional transparency and trust.
You will oversee and mentor a team of analysts, modernize and automate complex reporting processes, and serve as a subject matter expert on compliance data and governance. In this role, your work directly informs executive decision-making, supports strategic planning and assessment, and ensures that high-quality, well-governed data is used consistently across the institution.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Manage a team of data and business intelligence analysts, ensuring that they are meeting project milestones, responding to compliance report requests, and delivering high-quality business intelligence. Manage projects within the area of compliance reporting and analysis with the goal of automating repetitive reports and processes and effectively aligning resources and capacity to meet current and future demands across the BIRS team. Complete data and business intelligence projects in a timely manner. Continuously monitor delivered solutions for accuracy and effectiveness, seeking continuous improvement.
- Attend state higher education meetings related to compliance reporting as needed. Represent the BIRS department in university meetings or committees with stakeholders as assigned and coordinate action items with the Director, BIRS. Institutional subject matter expert for compliance data and reports.
- Work with various stakeholders across the organization, including executives, staff, faculty, and colleagues in the digital transformation division, to document and maintain data definitions and other governance artifacts related to compliance reporting for the university. Act as a subject matter expert on university data governance practices.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of standard practices and procedures within the Business Intelligence and Research Services team, and support institutional data literacy efforts. Respond to escalated service requests related to data collection, research, assessment, and their application in specific tools or delivered solutions
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as business administration, computer science, or statistics with at least three years of experience in a related field OR a bachelor's degree with at least five years of experience in a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in a relevant field such as business administration, computer science, or statistics with at least three years of experience in a related field OR a Master's degree with at least five years of experience in a related field.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
- Knowledge and understanding of the different types of business intelligence tools available in the market, their features, and capabilities.
- Knowledge of BI technologies such as ETL, data warehousing, reporting, analytics, data visualization, and artificial intelligence.
- Knowledge of predictive and prescriptive analytics.
- Knowledge of data management principles, including data quality, data profiling, data integration, data modeling, data mapping, and data governance.
- Understanding the importance of data governance and how to ensure data quality.
- Understanding of database management systems and principles, including relational databases, NoSQL databases, and data warehouses.
- Knowledge of SQL programming, and data analysis techniques such as data mining and predictive modeling.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies and tools, including Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, and PMBOK.
- Experience in planning, executing, monitoring, and controlling projects.
- Knowledge of data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, and QlikView.
- Understanding of higher education and the key performance indicators (KPIs) that measure success for students and key functional areas or divisions.
- Knowledge of the operational aspects of a large, public higher education institution.
- Understanding of the ethical issues related to data and analytics.
- Knowledge of data privacy and security policies and laws, especially in relation to higher education.
- Understanding of the compliance obligations of a higher education institution, specifically in the areas of federal, state, and grant reporting.
- Knowledge of coaching, mentoring, and performance management techniques.
- Strong presentation skills and the ability to convey complex information in a simple, easy-to-understand manner.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to stay up-to-date with the latest trends and advancements in BI technology.
- Knowledge of industry publications, conferences, and seminars.
- Advanced skill in the use of BI tools such as Power BI and Tableau to provide insights and tell data stories.
- Strong coaching and interpersonal skills, especially in change management, team leadership and motivation.
- Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders, team members, and senior leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team of developers, analysts, student interns, and other professionals to achieve excellent results, with care and demonstrating accountability.
- Ability to analyze data and present insights visually in a way that clearly communicates a story to an audience.
