Job Summary:
We are currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for the following position: Running Start (RS) Advisor (multiple positions available).
This vital role supports EWUs commitment to fostering student success by guiding high school participants through our Running Start program. As an RS Advisor, you will play a key part in empowering students to achieve high school graduation, build academic plans that pave the way for an EWU bachelors degree, and confidently transition into university life. We seek a candidate passionate about persistence-based interventions and experienced in supporting underserved, low-income, or first-generation students. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Running Start, you will collaborate with colleagues and university staff to ensure the programs continued success.
This on-campus position is based in Cheney, WA. This is not a remote position.

The salary for this position is $42,024 (minimum) up to $50,433. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills.

Required Qualifications:
To be considered qualified for this position, you must meet the minimum qualifications defined below:
- Bachelors degree.
- Two (2) years of experience in academic coaching, academic advising, or related field; working with groups and or individuals setting and completing goals, and encouraging persistence and resilience.
- Work experience utilizing philosophy or theory-based practices to facilitate student success inside and outside of the classroom.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a positive collaborative manner to build partnerships and work effectively as a contributing member of an advising team in a fast-paced, high-stress dual university/college system.
- Demonstrated experience using computer technologies such as databases, internet, spreadsheets, tracking systems, and word processing.
- Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and time while under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Professional experience with programs that provide services to students from underrepresented and/or first-generation populations.
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
- Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that is supportive of the needs including universal access of our students, faculty, staff and the public.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in education, counseling, social work, academic advising, or academic coaching.
- Masters degree.
- Fluency in a second language.

Job Duties:
DIRECT STUDENT SUPPORT:
- Provide one-to-one advising to Running Start program participants within an assigned caseload, including proactive and regular communication.
- Assist students with developing their academic plans, consistent with their life, career, and educational goals, while ensuring steady progress towards high school graduation.
- Communicate with high school counselors and parent/guardians about program participants progress as appropriate under FERPA.
- Coordinate with university departments to schedule placement testing and update students files as assigned.
- Follow the policies and procedures of EWU Running Starts Book Loan program as assigned.
- Build and sustain educational relationships with students that support student persistence, high school degree completion, progress towards college degree completion and a strong student/University connection.
- Teach developmentally and culturally sensitive student success informational sessions, seminars and workshops which may include instruction in EWU academic policies and procedures, available support resources, educational planning tools, career decisions, time management, study skills, and decision-making skills.
- Support and help implement Running Start orientation, celebratory, and informational events as directed by the units leadership.
- Actively participate in EWUs Early Warning program, responding to alerts, progress reports and cases in a timely manner. Determine student needs, identify types of academic problems/difficulties that individual students are experiencing, and refer them to appropriate services.
- Access, review, and maintain student records. Maintain privacy and confidentiality of all student information.
ASSIST IN PLANNING AND MAINTAINING OF OVERALL ADVISING PROGRAM:
- Participate in student advising, persistence, and retention assessment efforts for Running Start participants.
- Collect, analyze, and report data for student populations as requested.
- Collect and process Enrollment Verification Forms.
- Regularly update and maintain Banner records for students.
- Review published research and participate in OSPI offered webinars and trainings to maintain updated knowledge of programs, information, procedures, technologies, and best practices in dual enrollment programs.
- Consult regularly and work collaboratively with university staff, and administration, including CAAR, Admissions, Financial Aid, and Records and Registration to maintain up-to-date awareness of university programs, information, technologies, and procedures.
- Assist in updating various office materials and presentations.
- Attend staff and other informational meetings.
- Identify policies and procedures that adversely affect students and propose solutions.
- All other related duties as assigned.
Conditions of Employment:
Willingness to travel, including occasional overnight travel, to represent EWU programs, to consult students, parents and high school professionals.
