Job Summary
The Assistant Director of Communications plays a key role in planning and developing clear communication strategies. They also help accomplish timely and effective strategies that support the goals of the Office of the Registrar and the Division of Enrollment Management. The position reports to the Enrollment Management (EM) Director of Marketing and Communication, and supervises a full-time communication coordinator. The position partners with communication colleagues across the central EM marketing and communication team, the division and campus to deliver coordinated and effective communication for students, faculty, staff and other constituents served by the Office of the Registrar. This position regularly contributes to projects and discussions related to new, changed and current academic programs, policies, publications, deadlines, enrollment activities, and office/campus initiatives as well as with the rollout of new services and technologies of the office that impact constituents served by the Office of the Registrar. The Assistant Director manages both the strategic and functional aspects of communication operations, as well as publishing and archives of the departmental website, email communications and key publications, including the University Catalog. The Assistant Director collaborates with registrar staff on infrastructure and reporting needs for audience generation and communication workflows. Serving as a communication liaison to Enrollment Management, OIT, Strategic Relations and Communication, and external vendors the position ensures alignment and consistency across channels. The Assistant Director also works with the Assistant Vice Provost and University Registrar and the Office of the Registrar leadership team in developing the department's annual communication plan and roadmap. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Strategic Communication Planning and Implementation:
- Develops and implements the communication strategy and plan for the Oce of the Registrar, including internal communications, Registrar newsletters, the University Catalog, e-memos, web content and annual report.
- Serves as the Office of the Registrar communication liaison to ensure accurate and timely content within the student-facing portal.
- Proactively coordinates and supports communication needs of the Office of the Registrar in collaboration with office business owners/subject matter experts, project manager, and CRM strategist.
- Oversees the development and maintenance of clear, timely, and relevant content for students, alumni, faculty, staff, and other constituents, ensuring alignment with brand standards and accessibility guidelines and maintaining a consistent tone and approach to communications across the Office of the Registrar.
- Consistently seeks to innovate, improve, modernize, and streamline web pages, University Catalog copy, and other communications to make complex content for various audiences easy to understand, find, and use.
- Strives for consistency in user experience, readability, and format. Ensures adherence to established communications standards and supports consistent application across Registrar content.
- Reviews analytics for open rates, trac patterns, and user trends to accurately target content and enhance the user experience.
- Identifies opportunities to consolidate campaigns and publications to streamline delivery of content.
- Understands the Oce of the Registrar mission, goals, and standard business processes to proactively anticipate the needs of our constituents and represent the department's communication strategy and plan in office and cross-campus initiatives.
- Manages operational workflows on Catalog updates and workflows related to the curriculum management software to ensure approved program and curriculum updates.
- Collaborates with other communication professionals in enrollment management and across campus to coordinate and streamline related communication plans and content.
- Participates as a Registrar communications representative in cross-campus communication strategies, including a new marketing cloud/CRM platform.
- Supports organizational change efforts for the Office of the Registrar through clear and timely communications.
- Regularly reviews and updates information architecture.
- Provides creative design, editing, and publication of the office's annual report.
- Ensures accessibility compliance of all published content to accommodate diverse users and devices.
- Apply inclusive language standard processes across all communications.
- Supervises the creation of communication materials to maintain brand and messaging standards.
- Reviews and edits copy as needed to ensure a professional and accessible format and targeted message.
- Engages with campus partners on special initiatives and contributes to product rollouts to guarantee a comprehensive and streamlined experience for constituents.
- Works with subject matter experts to establish publication calendars and deadlines based on business processes, academic calendars, and constituent needs or success.
- Manages publication of the University Catalog, academic calendar, e-memos, and website is current and aligned with published calendars, dates, and deadlines.
- Implements content strategies to ensure timely delivery.
- Provides leadership for and support to a full-time communication professional.
- Serves as a backup to and is cross trained on all communications projects and systems to ensure coverage and collaboration for consistent, high quality delivery.
- Distributes tasks among the communication team to balance work load, increase familiarity with business needs, and meet goals.
- Fosters an achievement-focused and responsible environment that attracts and retains a high caliber of communication professionals in a collaborative and positive environment.
- Contributes to cross-team collaboration where communication, marketing, and EM units align tactics so all efforts work towards successfully and effectively meeting the goals of Enrollment Management.
- Develops annual performance plans to ensure development of new skills and engagement with and dedication to role and office priorities. Provides ongoing coaching and mentoring to the team to achieve success and develop careers.
- Stays informed of industry trends, protocols, and standards.
- Explores new methods of content delivery.
- Actively represents CU Boulder through participation in professional organizations; presents, serves on committees or other forms of professional engagement.
- Collaborates with other communication professionals in the campus community.

- The salary range is $75,000 to $79,000 annually.

What We Require
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, or related field.
- Minimum of three (3+) plus years of experience creating content for marketing and communication campaigns.
- Additional appropriate experience will substitute for degree requirements on a year for year basis.
- Demonstrated responsibility and independent management experience with communication projects in a professional setting
- Proven experience with customer relationship management (CRM) systems, preferably Salesforce.
- Extensive experience with HTML and/or an HTML editor, especially Drupal Demonstrated experience with Photoshop, In Design, Illustrator, and/or other Adobe Creative Suite applications.
