Position Description

The Assistant Dean for Administration & Chief of Staff at Seattle University School of Law is responsible for the management and oversight of administrative operations within the School of Law.
As Chief of Staff this position will assist the Dean of the School of Law with (1) strategic planning initiatives, (2) policy and process development and implementation, and (3) will operate as a high-level adviser, connector, communicator, and facilitator with/for the Dean and internal and external constituents.
The Assistant Dean and Chief of Staff's job performance should result in efficient and efficient management of the School of Law's administrative operations, achievement of decanal priorities, and the execution school's strategic planning process.
The Assistant Dean for Administration & Chief of Staff reports to the Dean and is a member of the Dean's Executive Cabinet.
The responsibilities of this position include management and oversight of administrative operations within the School of Law. The Assistant Dean is responsible for the following areas:
Essential Position Responsibilities
- Serve as liaison between the Dean and various internal and external constituencies including university departments.
- Represent the Dean and School of Law in an ex-officio capacity on committees and special projects at the discretion of the Dean.
- Act as a key advisor to the Dean and recommend to the Dean action on university and school policies and procedures.
- Assist the Dean in providing leadership that fosters mutual respect among all constituencies of the school.
- Be familiar with all current issues being managed by the Dean to be able to communicate with individuals and groups regarding these issues.
- In combination with the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, serve as a change management leader in the development and execution of the school of Law's strategic planning process and serve as a primary liaison to the university Vice President for Strategic Planning.
- Assist the Dean with preparation of high-level external and University communications, speech preparation, the development of proposals and institutional agreements, etc.
- Work with senior staff to ensure School of Law practices and procedures are in compliance with school and university policies.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the School of Law and the University Human Resources department for matters related to hiring, promotion, performance reviews, faculty services, contract renewals, and other employment functions.
- Serve as a primary liaison to the University Information Technology department regarding long-term technology plans and services for the School of Law.
- Provide direction for the Dean's Executive Coordinator when prioritizing calendar requests for the Dean's time.
- Other duties as assigned.
Staff Supervision to include the following positions
- Director of Network & Computer Services
- Executive Coordinator in the Dean's Office
- Assistant to Associate Dean's Position (shared supervision with Vice Dean for Academic Affairs)
Qualifications
- Advanced Degree required (Master's, Doctorate, or JD), with an understanding of the Seattle University mission, as well as an alignment with the university's mission, vision, and values and four years of experience in an academic environment.
- Strong organizational, communication, writing, decision-making and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with large and diverse internal and external audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with attention to details, timelines, the context for decisions, and policy and public relations implications.
- Individual initiative and demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Culturally competent approach to leadership with a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- High level of diplomacy and confidentiality is required in this role at all times.

Compensation at a Glance
Salary Range: $120,000 - $130,000
Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.

Hybrid Eligible
This position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule after successful completion of an introductory work period of 3-6 months. This may mean that a hybrid eligible role will begin on-campus initially and then will transition to hybrid format following onboarding and training. Flexible work plans are subject to periodic review and may be changed or terminated at any time for any reason at the university's discretion.
