Job Summary
Manager, Program Management
Manage the design and implementation of programs that carry out the mission of the university. Develop strategies and goals to create programs offering the greatest impact to the community. Determine short- and long-term program plans to meet organization goals. Oversee the coordination and daily work activities of the programs. Represent the interest of assigned program participants, both inside and outside of the organization. Manage volunteers, members, and staff. First-level manager. Manages the activities of supervisors and/or individual contributors. Responsible for hiring and pay reviews. Broad knowledge of the field with demonstrated leadership skills. Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.

Responsibilities
Strong applicants are great at communication and have a passion for supporting students
throughout their academic journey. The primary responsibilities for this position are to:
- Oversees daily program operations and coordinates program activities for the Summer Program for Undergraduate Research (SPUR) and other programs as assigned. Program activities include recruiting faculty mentors, participating in the committee decisions regarding faculty mentors, recruiting undergraduate researchers, and coordinating activities to award undergraduate researchers. Support in coordinating other OUR programs, as assigned.
- Oversees administrative matters regarding the day-to-day operations and procedures of an academic, research, or administrative program - Summer Program for Undergraduate Research (SPUR) and summer research experiences, including: recruiting undergraduate researchers, coordinating activities for summer researchers, collaborating with faculty mentors, recruiting student and faculty participation in summer research, and hiring and onboarding researchers. Coordinates weekly meetings and programmatic activities to support undergraduate research activities in the summer. Promotes opportunities for undergraduate research with summer research experiences at the U nationally. Onboards, hires, and supports summer undergraduate researchers. Provides support for OUR outreach activities, which increase student awareness of OUR opportunities through classroom presentations, tabling support, and other assigned activities. Work in collaboration with marketing and communication to ensure timely production of printed and electronic marketing materials for OUR summer programs and OUR partner activities.
- Develops and implements program goals and objectives for undergraduate research experiences related to summer program experiences. Monitors program quality and effectiveness and works with the associate dean/director to implement improvement methods.
- Manage budget and expenditures related to summer research and program partner activities, and manage the hiring of undergraduate researchers. Forecasts, prepares, or directs the preparation of the program budget and monitors expenditures.
- Supports efforts fostering OUR's campus partnerships. Coordinates meetings with the Office for Undergraduate Research Partners and other meetings related to high-impact practices. Assists the Associate Dean / Director with program policies, goals, and related technical issues concerning OUR program partners. Facilitates cooperative agreements in the form of MOUs with campus-program partners approved by the Associate Dean / Director. Stays abreast of legal or other related changes impacting the program and makes recommendations for improvement and compliance. Post research opportunities to the database in coordination with the outreach coordinator. Program partners are both internal and external to the University of Utah.
- Develop programming through curriculum and content creation for undergraduate researchers that will strengthen workforce readiness through the creation and implementation of a certificate/badging program.
- Manage budget and expenditures related to summer research and program partner activities, and manage the hiring of undergraduate researchers. Forecasts, prepares or directs the preparation of the program budget and monitors expenditures. Negotiates terms of contracts and/or service agreements.
- Provides support to OUR outreach activities; outreach activities are those that increase student awareness of OUR opportunities through classroom presentations, tabling support, meeting with students, and other activities assigned.
- May develop systems and maintain records to support and advance the program. This includes coordinating with OUR staff, regular updates about OUR events and opportunities to the larger OUR community, including the OUR newsletter.
- Represent the Office of Undergraduate Research and Undergraduate Studies at meetings, events, and on committees. Build professional working relationships with campus and off-campus partners regarding undergraduate research events across campus and in collaboration with OUR.
- May supervise subordinate staff who support summer research activities during events and meetings.
- May assign, direct, and review the work of support staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:
Supervisor, Program Management: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience or a master's (or equivalency) degree. Senior Supervisor, Program Management: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience. Manager, Program Management: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience. Senior Manager, Program Management: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 8 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 6 years of directly related work experience.
Preferences
- Bachelor's degree in a related field plus one year directly related experience or equivalency
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, analyze, and make decisions related to program content.
- Strong coordination and organizational skills are required to prioritize conflicting deadlines. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.
