Description
The Department of History at the College of the Holy Cross invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in the history of the Mediterranean world, with a chronological focus in either the medieval or early modern period, to begin in August 2027. This is an entry-level tenure track position for recent Ph.D.'s who have not yet served in a tenure-track capacity. We particularly welcome applicants focusing on transregional exchanges or conflicts across Mediterranean spaces, broadly defined. Candidates will be expected to teach introductory courses in medieval and early modern history, updating our current catalog offerings within that timeframe and including at least some courses focusing on Europe. Candidates will also have the opportunity to self-design courses according to their own interests and areas of expertise and to participate in teaching a required methods class to majors. We seek applicants who will bring originality to the classroom and develop synergies with colleagues in the Department of History and in other departments and interdisciplinary programs across the College. Finally, we expect that the candidate's overall teaching will contribute to History's Global Themes curriculum.

This position carries a 3-2 teaching load with a research leave prior to tenure review of either a full year at 80% salary or a semester at full salary, and generous sabbatical and fellowship leaves for tenured faculty. To enable a smooth transition to Holy Cross, new full-time tenure-track Assistant Professors receive start-up funding to support their research and professional development and have a one-course reduction in their first year of teaching (i.e., 2-2). This position offers full benefits and a starting salary of $102,500.

Candidates must demonstrate excellence in scholarship and undergraduate teaching as well as a commitment to inclusive pedagogies. Ph.D. required by the beginning of the appointment.
