Detailed Description:

This is a full-time temporary, benefit-based position. The appointment is renewable at the discretion of the University and dependent upon performance and continued funding.

Under the direction of the Benefit Manager, reviews and approves benefit and insurance enrollments and changes for processing.  Reconciles and pays benefit and insurance premiums to the appropriate vendors. Provides administrative support for leave of absence and Workers' Compensation claims.   Assists with annual open enrollment, new employee benefit orientations and monitors enrollment results.  Performs a broad spectrum of tasks in support of the Benefits department. Acts as the primary contact for first-level benefits inquiries for a variety of benefits programs including health and welfare, retirement, leave of absence, time off, PPACA and leave of absence. Works with highly confidential employee information and is responsible for compliance with privacy regulations under multiple state and federal regulations, including but not limited to: ERISA, COBRA, GINA, HIPPA, FMLA, CFRA, PDL, FEHA, the ADA and ADAAA, and FERPA, and supports programs and processes under the purview of the IRS, DOL, the Civil Rights Department and other local, state and federal jurisdictions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Processes employee insurance and benefit enrollments and changes.
  • Processes, files, and supports management of workers' compensation claims.
  • Responds to employee benefit inquiries timely.
  • Assists with annual open enrollment and monitors enrollment results. 
  • Reconciles monthly vendor statements and troubleshoots and resolves discrepancies.
  • May assists with administration of tuition exchange and tuition remission programs.
  • Communicates with benefit vendors to resolve enrollment and service issues.
  • Provides support to the benefits team in administration of employee retirement plans including answering questions and assisting employees with enrollment and plan contribution changes.
  • Assists with scheduling various benefit-related events.
  • Assists with the development and distribution of benefit educational materials.
  • Assists with benefits communications including presentations to employees.
  • Provide administrative support with employee leaves of absence. 
  • Assist in maintaining employee benefits files.

Degree Verification Requirement: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes. 

High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 2+ years of general office experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
  • Some general HR experience or experience in benefits highly preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish highly preferred.

Posting Salary:

$21.82-$28.90 per hour; Excellent Benefits

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position.  Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
