Description:
The School of Music at Baylor University seeks an engaging scholar and collaborative educator who excels in research and teaching (undergraduate and graduate). This full-time, tenure track, Assistant or Associate Professor appointment will begin in August 2027.

About the Music Theory Area:

With six full-time music theorists, the School of Music's theory area is committed to delivering a robust core curriculum that serves all our majors. Through scholarship and specialized courses in theory and analysis, we partner with other divisions within the School to prepare our students with a solid foundation that serves them well as music professionals. The theory area is part of the Academic Studies Division, which provides support for individual and collaborative research as well as opportunities for sharing and developing ideas related to pedagogy.

Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Maintain an active program of research and publication in music theory appropriate for faculty at a major research university
  • Teach courses within the undergraduate theory and ear-training curriculum and graduate courses, as needed
  • Participate in School of Music and University service as appropriate
  • Contribute to the intellectual life and mission of Baylor University and the School of Music


Appointment Date: August 15, 2027

Rank and Salary: Assistant/Associate Professor, full-time, tenure-track

Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience

Qualifications:
  • PhD in Music Theory (or the equivalent) completed by the appointment date
  • Successful record of teaching music theory as instructor of record at the collegiate level
  • Record of and/or potential for achievement in the field at a national or international level
  • All School of Music faculty are expected to demonstrate commitment to creating a caring and supportive learning environment for our students
