Counselor

Utica College, a small comprehensive college in Upstate New York, is seeking applications for a Counselor to be responsible for providing individual mental health counseling services to students and making referrals for specialized care in the community if appropriate. Through personal contact and coordination with other faculty and staff, the Counselor assists students in attaining their educational goals through addressing mental health, interpersonal, and developmental problems in living.

Primary responsibilities include:

Provides individual and group counseling for students concerning personal, educational, and career issues.
Provides referrals for specialized mental health treatment in the community as appropriate.
Assists in maintaining a current list of local mental health providers to utilize as referral sources.
Actively participates in all counseling meetings, case conferences, and supervision.
Provides consultation services for faculty and staff who present with concerns/and or questions regarding specific students or questions regarding counseling center services.
Provides crisis intervention services and provides coverage as the counselor-on-call for after-hours emergencies on a rotating basis.
Maintains current and accurate clinical records of all counseling interventions and consultations.
Maintains confidentiality of student records.
Assists in developing and coordinating psycho-educational outreach for the campus community (e.g. Mental Health Awareness Week events, Body Image and Eating Disorder Awareness Day events, Depression Screening Day events, and Suicide Prevention programming).
Collects and reports data necessary to assess effectiveness of counseling interactions as well as outreach efforts and educational programs.
Attends and participates in Student Affairs staff meetings.
Works cooperatively with other College departments.
Facilitates access to counseling support for students concerning personal, educational, and career issues.
Assists in the development and implementation of the objectives and the goals of the Health and Wellness Center and Student Affairs.
Attends Utica College functions, including convocation and commencement and is supportive of College-sponsored events and programs.
Projects a positive attitude toward the position, the department, and the College.
Takes an active role in the development of the department's strategic and operational plans as required by department leadership. Works closely with department supervisor to develop and implement operational goals that support departmental success.
Responsible for working with supervisor and other team members to achieve successful results on all established individual and departmental goals and key performance indicators.
Completes other duties as assigned by the Director of the Health and Wellness Center or Senior Clinical Counselor(s).

Qualifications:

Master's degree in counseling, social work, or related field is required.
Experience in higher education counseling centers preferred.
Licensed Mental Health Counselor preferred.
