Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Library Technician 1 in the University Libraries. The Library Technician 1 will work as a member of the Metadata and Cataloging Department and is responsible for performing descriptive copy cataloging of a full variety of materials including monographs, DVDs, maps, microforms, etc. Other duties include, but are not limited to; routine maintenance of MARC metadata including completing database clean-up projects, creation of authority records in accordance with PCC guidelines as part of the NACO program, and occasional work with non-MARC metadata projects and/or maintenance. The University of Nevada, Reno Libraries are in the middle of a Library services platform migration from III Sierra to Ex Libris Alma. Completion of the migration is slated for June of 2021. The Library Technician 1 position in the Metadata and Cataloging Department will be heavily involved in the training and preparation for the migration including learning new workflows, creating new processes, and data clean-up efforts with the goal of increased efficiencies within Technical Services. The ability to adapt, learn quickly, work independently, and communicate effectively is of utmost importance in this position.



Required Qualifications

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of increasingly responsible experience working in a library; OR one year of experience as a Library Assistant III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.



Preferred Qualifications

Applicants with experience in the following are encouraged to apply: Academic library experience; Experience with the cataloging module within an Integrated Library System (ILS), preferably III Sierra or Ex Libris Alma; Experience with MARC metadata fields and their usage; Experience or exposure to authority records and/or authority control.



Schedule

The typical work schedule is onsite Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, remote work may be required in combination with onsite work. This remote work would be temporary; the position cannot be fully remote on a permanent basis.
