This is a professional managerial position reporting to the Academic Dean on our Winter Haven campus. The Program Director oversees the development, implementation and promotion of a Postsecondary Vocational Program. Work requires the analysis of complex problems, planning of various interrelated activities, and the coordination of effort of multiple projects or functions, in addition to formulating and maintaining programmatic budgets.

  • Develop the curriculum framework and all instructional materials for the program.
  • Disseminates program information to appropriate college recipients (administrators, advisors, faculty, and program students) and appropriate recipients outside the college (accreditation or certifications agencies, state agencies, etc.).
  • Assemble and compile all materials required for accreditation or certification of the program.
  • Evaluate the preparation of students for entry into the program and administer all aspects of the selection process if a limited access program.
  • Supervise adjunct instructors employed by the program.
  • Coordinate practicums, clinicals, internships, joint ventures and/or work-related educational experiences for program students.
  • Monitor program adherence to state regulations/national accreditation criteria.

This position is a level P16. To determine starting salary, Polk State College takes into consideration the pay level minimum, the candidate's qualifications and internal equity factors.

Required Skills:
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of professional training and development program design.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional method theory, and practical applications.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with a variety of contacts of considerable importance within, and outside of, the college. Contacts outside the college where lack of tact or judgment may result in negative college relations to a limited degree.
  • Ability to work independently with the responsibility for planning details and methods to obtain definite objectives and to make decisions within broad limitations of policy and professional standards.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with college personnel.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.


A Masters degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a regional or national accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) is required.

Required Experience:
  • At least 2 years of experience in a full-time academic appointment, with teaching responsibilities at the post-secondary level.

REQUIRED Certifications:

Must be an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant initially certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT), and licensed to practice in the State of Florida

Preferred Experience:

A minimum of five (5) years of documented experience in the field of occupational therapy is required. This experience must include:
  • Clinical practice as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant;
  • Administrative experience including, but not limited to, program planning and implementation, personnel management, evaluation, and budgeting;
  • Understanding of and experience with occupational therapy assistants; and
  • At least 2 years of experience in a full-time academic appointment, with teaching responsibilities at the post-secondary level.
