GENERAL INFORMATION

The College of the Holy Cross Visual Arts Department invites applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor in Drawing and 2D Media starting August 2024. The department seeks a candidate with expertise in blending traditional fine art drawing practices with emerging trends in contemporary art. Candidates should have experience teaching drawing courses in a fine arts context ranging from foundations to advanced level courses that develop student technical skills, conceptual thinking, and creative expression. Preference will be given to candidates who can help develop an innovative and dynamic set of courses that will provide foundational entry points for majors and general education students, build essential artistic production skills, and encourage fluidity between artistic disciplines. Candidates invested in teaching thematic courses where students can explore contemporary themes such as climate change, environmental justice, social justice, community engagement, and other cross-disciplinary subjects are of particular interest.

This position carries a 3-2 teaching load with a full-salary one-semester research leave prior to tenure review, and generous sabbatical and fellowship leaves for tenured faculty. All full-time appointments offer competitive salaries and include full benefits, including travel support and reimbursement for relocation. OVERVIEW OF VISUAL ARTS AT HOLY CROSS

The Millard Art Center studio buildings offer 12,000 square feet of studio space, including printmaking, photography, drawing, digital/new media, painting, and sculpture studios, with woodworking, welding, and 3D printing facilities. Studio art majors have individual workspaces during a yearlong capstone concentration seminar.

Classes actively engage with the arts on campus through the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Art Gallery, now housed in the Prior Performing Arts Center, a world-class venue for learning through the performing and creative arts, facilitating a transformative exchange between the arts and other disciplines. Holy Cross students and faculty work closely with the Worcester Art Museum, frequently visiting the comprehensive Department of Prints, Drawings, and Photographs collection. In addition, Holy Cross art students have access to museums and galleries in Boston and the larger New England area.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must demonstrate excellence in scholarship and a commitment to effective undergraduate teaching in the context of a liberal arts college. MFA required by the beginning of the appointment.
