General Position Overview

Lincoln College is a small private liberal arts institution established in 1865. Located in Lincoln, Illinois, the college offers an array of associates, bachelors, and graduate degree programs. With a current enrollment of roughly 1,100 traditional and adult students, Lincoln College continues to serve a diverse student body. Classes are provided on the main campus and additional instructional locations in Central Illinois.

The Vice President of Academic Affairs serves as the chief academic officer for Lincoln College and is responsible for overall team leadership for the Academic Affairs unit of the college. As a key member of the President's cabinet, the VPAA plays a critical role in advancing the academic growth and trajectory of Lincoln College. The Vice President of Academic Affairs reports directly to the President of the College.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Vice President of Academic Affairs responsibilities include:

Academic Oversight

  • Ensuring that all students experience a challenging and rewarding education consistent with the College's mission.

  • Advocating and promoting quality instruction, student success, integrated planning, and the expansion of Student Learning Outcomes to meet the educational needs of students in a diverse college environment.

  • Leading curricular development for new and existing programs.

  • Serving as the Interim Director of Graduate Programs.

  • Serving as the Project Director, liaison to the U.S. D.O.E, and the Advisory Council for the Title III program.

  • Overseeing institutional and program accreditation processes and compliance.

  • Serving as an ex-officio member of the Academic Committee, Institutional Review Board and Faculty Assembly.


  • Providing leadership and executive oversight of the day-to-day activities and operations of the various units within Academic Affairs.

  • Working effectively with community groups, educational entities, business, industry, government and legislative bodies to develop partnerships which result in improved service to students and to the community.

Strategic Planning

  • Serving as a member of the President's cabinet and working closely with other cabinet members in institutional budget management and planning, as well as strategic planning.

  • Exercising responsibility for the finances, budgets, quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of all programs and offices in Academic Affairs.

  • Contributing strongly to strategic planning, development and execution of academic vision.

  • Assisting in identifying, defining, and coordinating grant writing opportunities.


  • Oversees the faculty and administrative staff in Academic Affairs, including Advising, Assessment, Academic Support, Institutional Records and Research, Career Services, and the McKinstry Library.

  • Overseeing the Tenure and Promotion processes and working closely with faculty on issues related to teaching, scholarship and governance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned Doctorate from an accredited institution.

  • At least three years of teaching experience in higher education with a demonstrated student-centered philosophy of education.

  • At least two years of successful experience in higher education administration including a record of accomplishments.

  • Comprehensive knowledge, and demonstrated experience of academic program development, curriculum development and assessment; budget planning and preparation; strategic planning; and institutional research; and fiscal management.

  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of college students and a clear commitment to diversity among faculty and staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least five years of successful experience in higher education administration including a record of accomplishments.

  • Experience with strategic and tactical planning with a record of achieving institutional goals.

  • Knowledge of HLC standards or other accrediting bodies.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with faculty and staff at all levels of the College as a facilitator and a leader.

  • Understanding and awareness of the needs of diverse student populations, including experience working with low-income, first-generation students.

  • Aptitude to facilitate cooperation through discussion and consensus building.
