Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno's Counseling Services is seeking two Clinicians to join our collaborative, multidisciplinary team dedicated to advancing student mental health. As a Carnegie R1 research university, we serve a diverse student population of over 24,000. Our center utilizes a same-day access and brief therapy model designed to reduce barriers to care and provide timely support for students experiencing mental health concerns. Licensed Counselors at UNR provide comprehensive mental health services, including individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and mental health evaluations. Advanced clinicians are assigned the most complex cases, provide mentorship and coaching to less experienced staff, and contribute to department-wide initiatives beyond direct clinical service. While most work focuses on student counseling, interactions with faculty and professional staff may occur as needed.
Position Levels
We are hiring at multiple levels based on experience:
Unlicensed Clinician
- Provide counseling, crisis intervention, and evaluations under supervision
- Participate in outreach and campus consultation
- Work under the supervision of a licensed clinician
Licensed Clinician
- Independently provide a full range of clinical services
- Participate in outreach and campus consultation
- Support student mental health through direct care and programming
- Provide supervision to trainees at various developmental levels
Advanced Licensed Clinician
- Manage complex clinical cases
- Participate in outreach and campus consultation
- Support student mental health through direct care and programming
- Provide supervision to trainees at all developmental levels
- Provide mentorship and coaching to other clinicians
- Contribute to department-wide initiatives and projects
- Serve as an informal leader within the team
All services provided are based on professional ethics, established standards for providers of mental health services, and state and federal law.

Required Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in a clinical mental health field (e.g., Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or related discipline)
- Clinical training obtained through graduate practica and internships sufficient to qualify for professional clinical licensure in Nevada
- Licensed in Nevada as a Master's level mental health clinician (LCSW, LMFT, or CPC) or eligibility for clinical licensure in Nevada within six months of hire pending the availability of a qualified onsite supervisor
- Candidates licensed in other states are encouraged to apply and should consult the appropriate Nevada licensing board to confirm eligibility within this timeframe

Compensation Grade
Licensed Clinician - Administrative Faculty B; Typical Range, $87,000 - $91,000
Advanced Licensed Clinician Administrative Faculty C; Typical Range, $95,000 - $100,000
Candidates will be hired at the level that is comparable to their experience, knowledge, skills and abilities. Grants-in-Aid for Faculty Employees

About Counseling Services
Counseling Services hosts an APA-accredited doctoral internship and multidisciplinary training program including practicum and postdoctoral fellows. The center is accredited by the International Accreditation of Counseling Services (IACS) and emphasizes prevention, consultation, and early-intervention strategies to expand access to care. Counseling Services supports continuing education and professional development, including opportunities for training, conference participation, professional organization involvement, and related travel.
