Position Summary
Supports the Lighting Supervisor in the implementation, maintenance, and operation of all theatrical lighting elements for live performances and events for The Hartt School and University events held in the performing spaces of The Hartt School. Assists in ensuring the safe and efficient execution of lighting designs while contributing to the educational mission of the School by mentoring students and maintaining a collaborative production environment. Performs all duties in full support of the University's mission, understanding that the positive effective execution of these duties is instrumental to the education of the University students.

Hiring Range
Budgeted hourly rate is $20 to $25, depending upon experience

Key Responsibilities
Lighting Support and Execution
  • Assists in the installation, focus, and strike of lighting equipment for Hartt School productions, concerts, and University special events in all performing spaces of The Hartt School.
  • Supports programming and operation of computerized lighting consoles under the direction of the Lighting Supervisor.
  • Helps troubleshoot and maintain lighting instruments, dimming systems, and control equipment in all Hartt performing spaces.
  • Sets cues and light levels for basic production for studio shows and small events for Hartt events and other campus events.


Crew Leadership and Student Mentorship
  • Supervises and guides student crews during hang, focus, show runs, and strike calls.
  • Promotes safe working practices and proper use of lighting equipment.
  • Serves as a resource for students learning technical theater skills.
Maintenance and Inventory
  • Assists in organizing and maintaining lighting equipment and accessories of The Hartt School.
  • Helps track inventory and reports equipment needs or repairs to the Lighting Supervisor.
Collaboration and Communication
  • Attends production meetings as needed to understand design concepts and schedules.
  • Communicates effectively with the Lighting Supervisor, designers, and technical staff to ensure timely completion of tasks.
Other Duties
  • Supports the educational mission of The Hartt School by fostering a collaborative and inclusive learning environment.
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned by the Lighting Supervisor and/or by the Director of Theater Operations and Production.

Education

Special Skills
The ability to work effectively with diverse groups. Familiarity with theatrical lighting systems and control consoles (ETC or similar). Basic knowledge of electrical safety practices. Ability to read and interpret lighting plots and technical drawings. Strong organizational and communication skills.
