What We Are Looking For
The Assistant Director of Athletic Medicine for Baseball serves in the Division of Athletics and reports to the Director of Athletic Medicine for Clinical Care. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the medical and rehabilitation programs for student-athletes on the Baseball Team.
A Masters degree in athletic training related field and three years minimum in a collegiate setting are required. Five or more years preferred. Collegiate or professional baseball experience is strongly preferred.
Licenses, Certificates, and Registrations
Board of Certification (BOC) Athletic Training Certification required. Texas Athletic Training License required (may be obtained after employment offer is accepted).
Applications must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
What Will You Do
Medical
- Serve as the primary Athletic Trainer and medical contact for the baseball program, providing comprehensive medical care to student-athletes at all practices, training sessions, and competition events.
- Provide comprehensive medical services to student-athletes under the delegated authority of the team physician, including facilitation and/or coordination of injury and illness care.
- Implement evidence-based injury prevention programs specific to the demands of baseball, including upper extremity load management, arm care protocols, and pitcher workload monitoring in collaboration with performance and coaching staff.
- Administer treatment and rehabilitation programs under the supervision of the Director of Athletic Medicine and Team Physician.
- Coordinate and facilitate preparticipation physical examinations, medical clearances, and return-to-play progressions.
- Travel with the baseball program as required, including preseason, regular season, and postseason competition.
Communication
- Maintain timely and appropriate communication with student-athletes, parents/guardians, coaches, team physicians, and athletics administration regarding student-athlete health status.
- Maintain proper medical documentation in accordance with departmental standards while supporting the confidentiality of protected health information.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with external health care providers, including sports medicine physicians, orthopedic specialists, physical therapists, and other providers supporting the healthcare of student-athletes.
- Work collaboratively with all members of the health and wellness team - including athletics performance, performance nutrition, athletics mental health, and academic support services - to best serve the student-athlete.
Operations
- Assist in the maintenance, organization, and proper use of athletic training facilities to create an efficient and safe working environment.
- Manage inventory, ordering, and tracking of medical supplies and equipment for the baseball athletic training program.
- Coordinate scheduling and logistics for medical appointments, imaging, and specialist referrals for baseball student-athletes.
- Assist in hiring and oversight of student employees assigned to the baseball athletic medicine staff.
Clinical Education
- Assist with the education and clinical oversight of Master of Athletic Training students assigned to the baseball program.
- Provide education to student-athletes, coaches, support staff, and parents on injury prevention, wellness, and return-to-participation protocols.
- Pursue ongoing professional development and continuing education to maintain current knowledge of best practices in athletic training and sports medicine.
Compliance
- Maintain a working knowledge of and adherence to all NCAA, Big 12 Conference, and institutional rules and regulations, and communicate immediately any possible infractions to the Athletics Compliance staff.
- Adhere to best practice standards established by the NATA, NCAA CSMAS, and similar governing organizations.
Other Duties
- Other program duties as requested by the Director of Athletics or designee. Administrative duties will be assigned by skills and experience. Maintain alignment with Baylor Athletic Medicine and departmental policies and procedures.
- Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission
