The Department of Neuroscience at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the tenure track. Expertise is required in basic neuroscience. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.

Teaching responsibilities may include participating in medical school basic science education as well as graduate training through affiliation with one or more of the inter-departmental, interdisciplinary graduate groups of the Biomedical Graduate Studies (BGS) program.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include developing an independent research program, synergistic with the scientific interests of one or more research institutes and centers, and other laboratories in the department, school, and university.

Special attention will be given to those who incorporate innovative machine-learning-based approaches in their studies or apply human cell-based models for mechanistic studies. Highly competitive lab space and start-up funds are available for successful candidates.

The Department of Neuroscience is embedded within a vibrant and highly collaborative research environment on the Penn campus, including the Mahoney Institute for Neurosciences (MINS), which brings together more than 200 labs spanning the full breadth of neuroscience research and fosters collaborative and multidisciplinary approaches to advance our understanding of the nervous system. Faculties in the Department of Neuroscience enjoy extensive collaborations across basic science and clinical departments, including Neurosurgery, Neurology, and Psychiatry, and are members of many interdisciplinary institutes and centers within the Penn and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) community, such as the Lurie Autism Institute, the Institute for Regenerative Medicine, the Penn Epigenetics Institute, the Chronobiology and Sleep Institute, the Institute for RNA Innovation, and the Institute for Translational Medicine & Therapeutics. Together, these integrative programs provide exceptional opportunities for innovative, cross-disciplinary research, and scientific discovery.
