The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure academic clinician track. Expertise is required in clinical microbiology. Applied and/or translational research in the broad area of clinical microbiology and/or infectious diseases is encouraged. Applicants must have an MD or PhD or MD/PhD degree. MD candidates must be board-certified (or eligible) in clinical pathology (or AP/CP). MD candidates must be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. PhD candidates must be board-certified (or eligible) by the American Board of Medical Microbiology. All candidates must have had a minimum of 1-year of subspecialty fellowship training in an accredited program in medical microbiology. Experience in clinical informatics is welcomed.

Teaching responsibilities may include active participation in teaching and supervision of fellows, pathology residents, medical students and laboratory staff in areas of medical microbiology.

Clinical responsibilities may include:

1. Serve as a clinical consultant to the medical staff and other providers on test results and interpretation

2. Fulfill the role as the director of the clinical microbiology laboratory at a regional hospital

3. Be involved with oversight of clinical test analysis and sign-out, quality management, innovation and test development

4. Working closely with the various infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship clinical teams

5. Actively participate in the teaching and supervision of fellows, pathology residents, medical students and laboratory staff in areas of medical microbiology
