Job Summary
Responsible for identifying customer needs and driving the vision, execution, and business objectives of a technical product. Tracks overall market and competitive dynamics. Identify business needs and opportunities, define product requirements, and provide strategic recommendations that guide product strategy, roadmap priorities, adoption, and product success. Prevent roadblocks across teams to meet quality standards, project deadlines, and business objectives. Manage long-term roadmaps, marketing, implementation, partners, and other stakeholders, ensuring successful product outcomes. Combines strong product management skills with sufficient technical expertise to effectively partner with technical teams, architects, security professionals, vendors, legal counsel, procurement, and other required stakeholders. Considered highly skilled and proficient in discipline. Conducts complex, important work under minimal supervision and with latitude for independent judgment.
Serve as a strategic technical product manager for enterprise technology services with an initial focus on Microsoft 365 and other unified communication platforms. The successful candidate will be responsible for defining, productizing, and driving adoption of enterprise services within the Platform Services unit, ensuring they deliver measurable value to University of Utah and University of Utah Health. In addition to Microsoft 365 services, define the product strategy, lifecycle management, and customer experience for Google Workspace, Gemini, Voice Services including CCaaS, Web Application Deployment & Automation services, Database Services, and other related enterprise technology offerings supporting the University of Utah and University of Utah Health.
About UIT: University Information Technology (UIT), the central IT service provider for the University of Utah, reports to the U's Chief Information Officer and is responsible for many of the U's shared IT services including the wired and wireless network; Campus Information Services (CIS) portal; UMail, telephone, and online collaboration; digital learning technologies; information security; software licensing; and a host of other IT systems and services.

Responsibilities
Technical Product Manager Department specific responsibilities:
Lead product strategy, vision, roadmap development, and lifecycle management for a portfolio of enterprise technology products and services through governance, adoption strategies, and success measures that deliver meaningful customer and organizational value.
Productize vendor-provided technologies and platform capabilities into customer-focused enterprise products that address business needs and improve the user experience.
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, service owners, technical support teams, engineers, architects, legal counsel, privacy, security, procurement, and other stakeholders to understand needs, identify opportunities, and develop recommendations that inform product strategy, roadmap priorities, leadership decision-making, and successful product outcomes.
Align product vision, roadmap priorities, backlogs, features, and enhancements with organizational goals, customer needs, business requirements, and organizational priorities.
Evaluate emerging technologies, vendor roadmaps, industry trends, and market developments to identify opportunities and develop recommendations that guide product strategy and future direction.
Develop and present business cases, cost models, product proposals, and strategic recommendations to leadership and other stakeholders.
Develop and maintain multi-year product roadmaps for a portfolio of enterprise technology products, including Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, AI productivity platforms (Microsoft Copilot, Gemini, NotebookLM), Voice and CCaaS offerings, Web Application Platforms, Database Technologies, and related services.
Define, track, and monitor product success metrics, leveraging data-driven insights to evaluate adoption, usage, customer satisfaction, and business impact.
Drive successful product execution, adoption, and value realization through stakeholder engagement, cross-functional coordination, communication, education, and change management initiatives.
Evaluate software licensing models, contractual obligations, compliance requirements, governance frameworks, and product entitlements to develop recommendations that support responsible use, long-term sustainability, organizational value, and informed leadership decision-making.

Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Technical Product Manager, III: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.
Preferences
Demonstrated ability to productize complex technology platforms and services, transforming vendor-provided capabilities into customer-focused products that deliver measurable value, including enterprise productivity, collaboration, communication, voice, and Contact Center as a Service (CCaaS) offerings such as Microsoft 365 (Teams, SharePoint Online, Exchange Online, OneDrive, Microsoft Copilot, and related technologies), Google Workspace, Gemini, and other related enterprise products and services.
Demonstrated experience managing technical products throughout the product lifecycle, including strategy development, business case creation, roadmap planning, adoption, optimization, and retirement, while providing data-driven recommendations that support product prioritization and leadership decision-making.
Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools and product management best practices.
Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and the ability to effectively collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle.
Experience working with software licensing models, vendor management, contracts, procurement processes, legal requirements, compliance requirements, and governance considerations.
Strong stakeholder management, communication, facilitation, presentation, and change management skills.
Experience in higher education and healthcare, or similar large, complex enterprise environments.
