Adjunct Faculty: Biology

Work Schedule: Consistent with MCCC contract MCCC unit position

Start Date: Fall 2026 Semester

SALARY: Minimum salary is $1,397 per credit hour. Actual salary is commensurate with the DCE Collective Bargaining Agreement

The STEM and Business Division invites applications for adjunct faculty to teach introductory Biology beginning in the Fall 2026 semester.

Current openings may be at our Danvers or Lynn campuses.

Current offerings are for:

BIO101: Biology 1: The Basics of Life

An introduction to the basic principles of biology. The course covers the chemistry of the cell, cell structure and function, cell division, genetics and some evolution. The laboratory is designed to enhance lecture and to develop investigative skills. (3 hours of lecture, 2 hours of lab per week)

Other biology courses may be available, and we anticipate offerings in future semesters. Assignments may include daytime or evening classes at our campuses or at high school throughout the region.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Teach courses- in lecture and in lab- as assigned by the Division Dean.
Prepare course syllabi, proctor and grade course assessments for both lecture and laboratory as scheduled, report final student grades, and complete student alerts by the specified dates each semester.
Develop and apply assessment strategies that maximize the learning process and measure student learning outcomes
Embrace the ideals of diversity and inclusiveness and support the equal rights of all people by advancing the understanding and appreciation of differences including age, race, gender, ability, religious convictions, socio-economic status, ethnic heritage, or sexual orientation.
Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.

Job Requirements:

Master's Degree or higher in Biology or a degree in a related field with graduate-level credit in the subject area.
Evidence of commitment to and experience working with a diverse student body
Knowledge of current laboratory safety practices in a teaching laboratory setting
Evidence of successful prior science teaching in higher education
Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Community College teaching experience strongly preferred.
Experience with Blackboard or similar Learning Management System
Predisposition to working in a dynamic environment requiring flexibility, adaptability, and teamwork
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
