Overview
The Natural Science Instructor is responsible for providing instruction in chemistry, biological sciences, and related laboratory-based science courses. Depending on the successful candidate's academic preparation and professional experience, instructional assignments may include general biology, microbiology, biochemistry, chemistry, and other related science coursework.
A primary focus of this position will be providing flexible, credentialed instructional capacity across science lecture and laboratory offerings. The instructor will support students in the Integrated Science Center (ISC), including facilitating face-to-face laboratory experiences for students from multiple compatible course sections within discipline-specific laboratory suites when appropriate to the instructor's credentials.
The position will also contribute to the continued development STEM and Applied Lab programming, including curriculum design, laboratory development, applied learning experiences, transfer coursework, and emerging workforce-focused science programs. Instruction may be offered at any college location or community partner site and may include face-to-face, online, embedded, accelerated, daytime, and evening instruction. The instructor will develop, maintain, and continuously improve curriculum within assigned areas of instruction and will report to the Dean of General Education and Transfer Pathways.

Responsibilities
- Provide instruction for assigned chemistry biological science, and related science courses in accordance with established course competencies and college standards.
- Facilitate face-to-face laboratory instruction within the Integrated Science Center and other college laboratory environments, including supporting students from multiple compatible course sections when appropriate to the instructor's credentials.
- Develop, revise, and maintain curriculum in applied science/biotechnology, biological sciences, and other assigned areas to ensure relevance to transfer education, workforce needs, and emerging developments within the sciences.
- Participate in the development of new science curriculum and programming, including biotechnology coursework, applied laboratory experiences, transfer pathways, and other STEM initiatives.
- Collaborate with science faculty and college leadership in the continued development of the Monroe Applie Lab and effective utilization of the Integrated Science Center, including laboratory procedures, instructional materials, equipment, supplies, safety practices, and faculty training.
- Engage in ongoing student learning assessment to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction and curriculum and contribute to continuous program improvement.
- Create a classroom and laboratory environment that is respectful of diversity and supports students with varied backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and educational goals.
- Maintain accurate student records and reports as requested by administrative offices.
- Identify students needing assistance and collaborate with Student Services, Learning Support, and other college resources to promote student success.
- Remain current in biochemical sciences, laboratory practices, instructional technology, and evidence-based teaching practices.
- Prepare and maintain course syllabi and instructional materials consistent with college guidelines and collaborate with faculty across departments and programs to coordinate curriculum and student learning experiences.
- Participate in curriculum development, assessment, program review, quality-assurance activities, and other academic initiatives as assigned.
- Participate in staff and faculty development activities and serve on department, division, college committees, and strategic project teams as appropriate.
- Attend advisory committee meetings and department, division, and faculty meetings; collaborate with transfer partners, employers, workforce partners, and community organizations as appropriate.
- Assist with student and staff recruitment, program outreach, science-related events, and job-placement activities as appropriate.
- Maintain scheduled office/student support hours and perform other responsibilities necessary to meet student, employer, department, and college needs.
- Assist the Dean and department leadership with other duties and strategic initiatives as assigned.
- Meet Wisconsin Technical College System professional development requirements through the Faculty Quality Assurance System.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Chemistry, or a closely related discipline.
- Academic preparation sufficient to meet college credentialing requirements in Biochemistry and at least two related science instructional areas, with preference for preparation supporting Biology, Microbiology and/or Chemistry.
