Job Title: Direct Support Professionals-Academic Success Coach

Office/Location: Remote

Job Summary:

The Academic Success Coach will support students participating in the SUNY Direct Support Professional (DSP) Micro credential Program as they pursue a series of credit-bearing micro credentials and work toward national certification from the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP). The Academic Success Coach, reporting to the Academic Success Director, will provide direct coaching to the working professionals engaged in the program to support/supplement campus capacity consistent with research-based best practices and overall program goals. This work is part of an innovative effort underway at 21 SUNY campuses through a partnership with the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities.

This position, approximately 50% time, will cover expanded hours for student support in the evenings and weekends, as well as provide general over-flow support.

Job Duties:

The DSP Academic Success Coach will:

  • Support students in setting goals and planning for success.
  • Provide direct coaching support for DSP micro credential students' as it relates to national certification requirements.
  • Document student interactions and work collaboratively with other designated coaches.
  • Review student progress data and provide focused support accordingly.
  • Review campus and program-wide data to maintain awareness of successful practices that can be replicated.
  • Develop/refine student support resources.
  • Participate in and contribute to the DSP Coaching Community of Practice.
  • Support the Academic Success Director in establishing the student community of practice.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:

Required Education/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Human Services or other related field such as education
  • At least 1 year of professional experience in higher education
  • At least 1 year of DSP or DSP-related experience
  • A solid understanding of student success and retention strategies in higher education, preferably with adult learners
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work closely with faculty and other coaches and staff.
  • A strong understanding of the Direct Support profession.
  • Must be able to provide student support in the evenings and/or weekends.


Note: This project is funded by a term limited contract sponsored by NYS OPWDD.

The salary range is $30,000-$32,500 per year, The pay will depend on a variety of factors that may include but are not limited to experience, education, training, and certifications
