Status: Full-time, Temporary "Non-Exempt" position (with the possibility of the full-time positions converting to probationary).

Work Schedule: Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Summer hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Typical Activities

Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean for College of Extended and Global Education, the incumbent will be responsible for a full range of moderate to complex clerical and general administrative support in the Center for International Studies and Programs.

Primary Duties include (but are not limited to):
  • Working independently, under general direction related to goals, the incumbent is responsible for the full scope of project activities including initiation, execution, coordination, implementation, and evaluation in providing administrative coordination and support for CISP programs.
  • Administrative work involves support and coordination of research, evaluation and preparing recommendations related to operational and procedural matters and ingenuity in developing solutions.
  • The incumbent works with complex programs, projects, and events that have campus-wide impact and that require ability to work independently.
  • The incumbent coordinates day-to-day office support and operations, assist students, staff, and office visitors and is responsible for document maintenance and monitor tasks and projects through their completion.
  • Incumbent is responsible for planning, coordination, and execution of multiple international education events and programs.
  • Work assignments typically require a comprehensive working knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies and procedures, ability to apply independent judgment, discretion, and initiative to address routine problems.
  • The incumbent must have demonstrated mastery in writing and presentation skills to effectively communicate standard reports and information to diverse and multicultural audiences.
  • The communication skills also include the ability to effectively interact with personnel at all levels of the university and the community.


Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent AND three years of experience in general office administrative/clerical work is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Administrations, Business Administration, Higher Education or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of office methods, procedures and practices, and a thorough mastery of English, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of applicable University infrastructure, policies and procedures is required.
  • Active problem solving skills are required along with effective and sensitive interpersonal skills.
  • Expertise in using standard office software such as MS Office package is required.
  • The ability to prepare and present reports is required.
  • The ability to interpret independently, and apply a variety of complex policies and procedures is required along with the ability to identify deviations from applicable policies.
  • The ability to apply independent judgment, discretion, and initiative to address problems and develop practical, thorough and, at times, creative solutions is required.
  • The ability to identify and troubleshoot office administration problems, recognize and advocate for solutions that yield programmatic progress and improvement, as well as respond to work area-related inquiries and requests is required.
  • The ability to understand problems from a broader perspective and anticipate the impact of office administration problems and solutions on other areas.
  • The ability to perform business math, support the analysis of budgetary data, and make accurate projections requiring some inference is required.
  • The ability to work professionally, collaboratively, and collegially with a diverse group of people, clients and co-workers, is required, as is the ability to use persuasion and negotiation to expedite projects and achieve results.


Supplemental Information

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.

The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
