Job Summary:
The Assistant Director of Student Recruitment is responsible for meeting targeted growth goals by representing and marketing Lamar University to prospective graduate students under supervision of Director of International Recruitment and managing an individual caseload. The Assistant Director directs the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of student recruitment and yield activities. This position is expected to formulate, affect, interpret or implement management policies or operating practices in regards to recruitment and retention of graduate students, serving on internal committees, and supporting a variety of office activities for the Office of Recruitment and Admission, and for Graduate Studies.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Initiate and lead recruitment efforts for graduate student populations, monitoring of applications, reporting on trends, monitoring recruitment expenditures, contacts, etc.
  • Promotes a recruitment strategy, including an annual recruitment plan that is aligned to overall goals of Lamar University.
  • Serve as a specialist for international students from agents and other partners, sponsored students as well as individual students.
  • In conjunction with the Undergraduate Recruitment team, develop marketing materials and coordinate communications with prospect students.
  • Recommend opportunities to enhance marketing and student services from inquiry through orientation to ensure that a diverse student body is attracted and enrolled
  • Initiate and lead retention programs such as academic intervention programs, transition of transfer students to the University, receptions for student groups, visits of sponsoring agencies, as well as support other programs such as international student orientation.
  • Work with the campus community as well as national and international organizations to support the successful recruitment and retention of international students.
  • Travel on recruitments trips which include university and high school visits, as well as representing LU at recruitment fairs.
  • Responsible for graduate student enrollment data analysis and management to include international institutional university rankings.
  • Provide and analyzes information in the Student Information System (Banner) and CRM (Ellucian), for management purposes and develop extensive enrollment reports on student populations.
  • Report on retention and graduation rates with recommendations on how to follow up with adequate support, and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Collaborates with Admissions Counselors and leadership to ensure operational activities within the admission office are streamlined and productive
  • Manage agent relationships to include identifying new agents, drafting contract agreements, promoting and marketing LU, working with admissions on coding and tracking, application processing, and agent commissions.
  • Preforms all other essential duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Skills and Qualifications:
    Bachelors degree required
    3 to 5 years of progressive recruitment/admission and/or higher education experience on student services required
    Ability to travel and work a varied schedule with flexible hours including some weekends and evenings
    Outstanding written and verbal communication skills are required
    Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, particularly in matters relative to sensitive or confidential student records, personnel or organizational matters
    Ability to effectively communicate across all levels through strong verbal, written, and interpersonal presentation skills
    Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment and to be a self-starter
    Experience working with people from diverse cultures
    Ability to clearly and persuasively articulate university programs and offerings to prospective students
    Ability to work independently and as a team member

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Preferred Qualifications:
    Masters degree preferred
    Experience with international student mobility or trends preferred.
    Management and Leadership experience preferred
    Proficiency in one or more foreign languages preferred
