Assistant Director for Community College Enrollment

William Paterson University invites applications for the full-time 12-month position of Undergraduate - Assistant Director for Community College Enrollment.

Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of University Admissions, the Assistant Director for Community College Enrollment would be responsible for supporting the daily activities at Bergen Community College and other community colleges as assigned, as the William Paterson University representative for our Joint Admissions, 2+2, and 3+1 programs and other articulation programs. The Assistant Director serves as an integral part of the admissions team and, as such, participates in recruitment, conversion functions, and events. As a result, the position requires extensive travel and presence on and off campus. Specifically at Bergen County Community College three times a week. As such, this position is performed with limited remote work.

The Assistant Director will generate student applications and assist students, as a trusted advisor, in the entire enrollment process being mindful that the University endeavors to retain students and maintain a student body that is diversely talented and academically prepared. They must be cognizant that the missions of University Admissions is evolving and therefore must be able to perform additional responsibilities that become part of standard operations. They must cooperate with other university staff and partnership staff in understanding the overall needs of transfer students.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Be knowledgeable about William Paterson University's programs, features, facilities, scholarships and financial aid opportunities, etc. and represent WP in a consistent and professional manner.
  • Communicates consistently and effectively with prospective/enrolled transfer students and their families in person, via phone, email, text messaging, printed media, and the internet.
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues in financial aid, advising, transfer programs and special services, registrar, and other campus offices to ensure a consistent and smooth transition from applicant to student.
  • Develops and implements effective recruitment strategies designed to enroll new undergraduate transfer students.
  • Initiates, develops, and maintains partnerships with community colleges to facilitate and enhance student recruitment, enrollment, and retention.
  • Advise new transfer students on course and major selection, college policies, transition and transfer processes. Provide accurate information regarding courses of instruction, resources and college policies.
  • Prepare preliminary degree evaluation and plans for completing remaining courses for assigned students; guide students through the advisement/registration process.
  • Actively participating in admissions events on and off campus, which could include evenings and weekends on a 12-month calendar, including frequent weekend hours.
  • Lead information sessions and presentations to prospective transfer students and parents during recruitment/enrollment events, college visits, college fairs, and panel discussions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that are appropriate for the position.


Qualifications - the ideal candidate must have the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in communication, education, management, or related field.
  • Three (3) years experience in an admissions, advisement, or enrollment department at a college or university.
  • Experience working with diverse and underrepresented populations.
  • Knowledge of CRM software.
  • Technical competency in a variety of computer applications, including but not limited to, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, spreadsheets, word processing, databases, MS-windows, and other PC-based tools.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Available for day, evening, and weekend work.
  • Strong Cohort Management, outreach, and tracking skills are required.


Additional, preferred qualifications:
  • Experience working with Transfer Students in a college setting.
  • Experience using Banner Student Information System, SLATE and DegreeWorks is preferred.
  • Academic Advisement Experience is preferred.
  • Fluency in languages other than English.
