Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Residential Life–Requisition # 18000000H0

The Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Residential Life is a member of the Student Affairs senior leadership team and will assist in creating a vision for the Division as well as policy making for the departments under his/her supervision. This position is an important link in student retention initiatives by guiding and leading various offices in Student Affairs to establish strong student connections to the university that foster their personal successful retention, progression and graduation.

This position will be called upon and expected to represent the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs when necessary. Responsibilities include:
  • Providing leadership direction, strategic master planning, and supervision for the departments of Housing & Residential Life, Student Affairs, Student Affairs Assessment and Strategic Planning, and finance and operations.
  • Processing changes and improvements for the departments based upon good practices, benchmarking, assessment of learning-service outcomes, surveys, and industry standards.
  • Providing oversight of major construction and renovations, identifying needs, scheduling, funding, and completion.
  • Successfully implementing the housing partnership with the UC Foundation, whose properties are valued at $96+ million including meeting the demands of the bond rating company that determines the valuation of the properties and subsequent bond ratings for the Foundation.
  • Developing and maintaining a strong marketing plan for housing and residential life and a plan for short and long-term repair and renovation (R&R) for all housing properties.
  • Developing plans for growing summer conferences as a source for strengthening revenue and institutional reputation.
  • Consulting with campus and system partners on policies related to Housing, conference, and a wide variety of student life issues; participating in enrollment management and overall campus needs to meet the CCTA requirements for university funding through participation on committees such as the CCTA steering task force, Parking and Transition Committee, the Division Assessment Committee, and Student Health Services Advisory Board.
  • Serving a pivotal role on the campus Crisis Response Team and Emergency Operations Center; coordination of safety and security needs for Housing.
  • Coordinating personnel matters including hiring, development, evaluations, and management of staff; providing conflict mediation.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree required; Doctoral degree preferred. Must have a minimum of 10 years of experience in housing and residential life; 15 years of experience in housing and residential life is preferred; must have 8 years of administrative experience in housing and residential life. Must have 4 years of experience in housing and residential life at the director level or above; 6 years of experience in housing and residential life at the director level or above is preferred. Experience as a senior team member in a university division of student affairs, reporting directly to the chief student affairs officer, is preferred. Must have extensive knowledge in financial management such as budgeting, forecasting, knowledge of bond ratings. Must have knowledge of construction and design of residential buildings and the ability to create pro formas for construction projects. Must have knowledge of best practices associated with the development of summer conferencing. Must have demonstrated skills/experience in the use of quantitative and qualitative data and assessment measures. Must have the ability to recruit, hire, train, and evaluate a professional staff. Knowledge and skills working in a diverse environment is preferred. Skills in supervising staff in a fast paced, dynamic department/division is preferred. Schedule requires frequent evenings and occasional weekend and overnight travel is required.
