General Description:
Under supervision of the Child Development Center Director the incumbent assists with the planning, organizing, and implementation of program educational services for children, parents and staff. These services include assisting with the classroom instruction with the children; curriculum development; staff development; coordination of daily operations; and ensuring compliance of child development program funding regulations and state licensing regulations.

Examples of Duties


Essential Functions:
  • Works cooperatively with lab program and instructors and provide modeling and support for college lab students training in the classroom
  • Teach and supervise a group of children as needed
  • Supports staff with planning and implementing of curriculum
  • Assist with the supervision and monitoring of all classroom practices - room arrangement, lesson plans, daily schedules, routines, and transitions to assure their adherence to program policies
  • Assist with the supervision of children's assessment; review of child's development assessment and work; data entry of children's assessment and outcome reports. Including observations of children and staff in each classroom
  • Assist with program compliance, audits, evaluations, accreditation and assessments
  • Assist with maintaining required staff documentation to ensure compliance with licensing
  • Complies with Child Development Center (CDC) policies and procedures, administrative regulations, State of California Health and Welfare Codes, and Child Development Division Title V regulations
  • Develops and participates in pre-service and monthly in-service training for teaching staff
  • Assist with special programs, classroom events, open house, fundraisers and parent orientation and meetings
  • Assist with health screenings, attend I.E.P.s, and refer children when indicated.
  • Verifies Web Time Entries for work study and general fund students
  • Compiles and tabulates statistical data
  • Assist with inventories and purchasing of consumable supplies
  • Assist with writing monthly parent newsletters
  • Assist with coordinating fire drills and emergency evacuation drills
  • Assist coordination of staff to maintain adult/child ratios
  • Assist and supervises volunteers
  • Carry out authorized emergency and safety procedures and administer first aid
  • Performs light housekeeping duties such as sweeping, laundry, windows, etc.
  • Reports suspected cases of child abuse and neglect in accordance with regulations and policies
  • Other related duties as assigned

Knowledge of:
  • Principles and practices of early childhood education

Ability to:
  • Speak, read and write English clearly
  • Work effectively with children, parents, staff, volunteers and community members
  • Lift up to 50 pounds
  • Stand on feet for long periods of time
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students


Typical Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
  • Associate's degree (AA/AS) in ECE/CD (or closely related field)

OR
  • AA/AS in any field plus 24 units of ECE/CD; plus 2 adult supervision units and 3 units in Infant and Toddler Development
  • Must possess or be eligible for a Master Teacher Permit
